4 out of 5 stars Yes, this is a good game.   September 18, 2008
My 16 yo niece loves it, I love it, and it's frustrating. All the cool and unusual weapons, god mode (~pkgod, weapons, ammo, etc), figuring out the weird ways to kill the various bosses... But, you can get stuck - moreso on the new levels than the original game. The original game on the disk is smoking hot gun fun! Pound it enough and you make it through, with plenty of challenging thinking, then, enable the challenges once you've got the gameplay down.

The add-on game died for me about halfway in some kind of keyboard overthought gymnastics. Stay with the original and have a blast or 300, and life is fun. I give this game a Go For It.

4 out of 5 stars What i was looking for   September 14, 2008
I wanted to kill things with a stake-gun, painkiller came through for me. Graphics are a little dated and gameplay got a little repetetive, but like i said before, i wanted to kill things with a stake-gun. The berserk/demon mode was fun and for a fps there were some pretty cool boss fights.

5 out of 5 stars Blow them all away   July 7, 2008
I've heard painkiller called one of the last of the old school first person shooters and this is generally very accurate.

Like Doom and Wolfenstien 3D(that's how far back I go) there is not really much in the way of a plot and there are none of those things that I hate namely escort missions and stealth missions.

Overall-Just you, big guns and bad guys have a good time.

1 out of 5 stars Missing CD-key   June 29, 2008

So I guess this is still a problem. While I read the one review about the missing cd-key, all reviews since then didn't mention this as a problem, so I decided to buy the game figuring the issue was resolved. My game included no piece of paper with a cd key. I looked up the problem online, and found out that in order to obtain a key, I would have to email dreamcatcher my contact info, and a picture of my painkiller cd. After borrowing a camera, I managed to email the required info. I have yet to receive a response after a week. Anyway, I advise anyone looking at this game to buy a different edition, or they risk gambling with obtaining a cd-key.

4 out of 5 stars Don't think, just shoot   June 9, 2008
It's Serious Sam, in hell. In fact, it trims down the inputs a bit further by not having a crouch ability. One less function to get in the way of action!

The story is...irrelevant. Check out Yahtzee's ZeroPunctuation review. NSFW language, but that's all. Hilarious. This review is why I bought the game actually.
