4 out of 5 stars Great for 8yr old / babysish for 10yr old   August 10, 2008

My daughter is 8yr and she really took to this. My son is feels it is a little babyish for him. But overall I recommend it and it is getting the job done... They do 45 minutes each day in the morning for 3 weeks so far and are doing great wtih it.

This product is not compatible with Vista, and trying to contact the company to get the appropriate patch is almost impossible....

1 out of 5 stars Hate it...Hate it...Hate it!!!   May 25, 2008

This is not a program that ran well on my computer. I could get the lessons to download. However the "reward games" part of it would not. Everytime you finished a lesson I would get an error code and then I could only go on to the next lesson. This is no reward for a child learning how to type. I called the company and they e-mailed me a link to get the updated version and I got the same thing with that one too. There is a link to download a "fix" to this problem. Instead of fixining the problem it messed up my computer!

The Sponge Bob typing program is the next one I purchased and I must say it is much more "user friendly". The only drawback is that you need the disk everytime you play. But you will get better results in the end.

I would advise against getting Typing Instructor for kids...either version. Sponge Bob is slightly more expensive but you know the saying: "you get what you pay for".

1 out of 5 stars BORING   April 28, 2008

This is the most boring typing game imaginable. I couldn't get my son interested in it for two minutes. The box says for ages 7 and up. Might be slightly thrilling for a very attentive four year old if that!

3 out of 5 stars A Warning for readers   April 14, 2008

My daughter, 10, had worked through most of this program, and was learning to type correctly. It was a bit prone to let her progress too fast without feeling that she was making good strides for small improvements, but overall I was satisfied with it. However, in the last module, she came upon a few sentences in a lesson which revealed the climactic ending of The Lord of the Rings, which she had been reading with her father and was only halfway through! In my opinion, this was inexcusable. There may be endings from other novels that are given away in this program by thoughtless consultants or programmers, which I am unaware of. Parents trying to raise their children to read the book before watching the movie might want to avoid this program, and investigate directly regarding details of texts used from literature in the program's lessons.
