The Best There Is... June 22, 2007 Just to echo all the sentiments expressed previously by others... This is a fabulous game! Something that hasn't been mentioned enough is the incredible support provided by the games developers on their web forums. All questions, even seemingly 'dumb' ones are answered quickly and in great detail.
Another great aspect of this game is the modifications that have been created for it by the community. It can be made into a completely new game - for example, there is a 'Rebels & Redcoats' mod that has been created that models the armies of the American Revolutionary War, complete with accurate uniforms and period music. Right now, modders are even working on a Napoleonic Wars module as well...
A must have!
Civil War battle simulation May 29, 2007 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
The game is a good simulation of American Civil War strategy and tactics and covers the 2nd Bull Run Battle. There is nothing on the PC game market that matches MadMinute's game covering(civil war battles). The game provides many secnarios from small detachment battles up to grand army battles in real time. Some battle senarios can last 3 hours or more. But the save battle button gives you a chance to go pee. The combat AI is quite good and will test any seasoned PC game vetran. The game will run on low end computers too. The graphics are not flashy, but this is no distraction for civil war buffs. Also a plus is the open play battles that you script. I use windows XP and have had no problems except with virtual memory which can be solved by adjusting the game settings.
Excellent Wargame for Anyone Interested in the American Civil War May 23, 2007 This is an outstanding achievement (and by a garage developer no less). Anyone with an interest in the American Civil War who enjoys challenging wargames should enjoy this game immensely.
The game features several historical scenarios, but it's the "open play" mode that I like best (and which makes the game endlessly replayable). It is truly a thrilling spectacle when two large armies meet up with each other and a full scale battle develops by mere happenstance in some obscure section of the map being played on. This would seem to be very true to life, and reminiscent of what actually happened during the war (e.g, at Gettysburg).
I can think of no better Civil War themed computer game out there. Hopefully, the developers will release future games covering other famous Civil War battles and, perhaps, even turn out a Napoleonic Era themed game.
Very fun May 13, 2007 1 out of 4 found this review helpful
This game shows what civil war Generals, corlnels, and commanders whent threw and how they commanded. The gameplay is my favorite part it lets you command small armies and huge armies. You can be all kinds of your favorite generals like Robert E. Lee or Stonewall jackson and many more generals. also when you command cannons you can choose witch type of cannon ball you want to fire. During the game you will recive messages during battle from other generals. The graphics arent as bad as Sid Mires civil war collection.Overall this is my favorite computer game. If you like civil war games than i suggest you buy it!!!!!!
Highly recommended. March 20, 2007 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
I highly recommend this game to anyone who enjoys strategy or civil-war related games. Very solid game engine, with lots of customization options to suit just about everyone. You can micro-manage your army as much as you want, but you're not forced to, since the AI for both sides is as good as it gets. It's also historically accurate down to the smallest detail. Just make sure you have at least 1 Gigabyte of RAM. The bigger battles use a lot of memory, but they're also the funnest to play, with tens of thousands of soldiers onscreen at once.
