1 out of 5 stars Caution   February 7, 2007

This version is an old version. You will have to download the latest version. Have dial-up and took 2 hours to download and still would not install. Microsoft could not help me. Installed Vista and tried to install again. Said I needed Service Pack 2 which Vista deletes on installation. Finally got it installed by trickery on the web. This is now 30 days later and now have virus protection. Go to the website to purchase this item.

3 out of 5 stars Pleased, but only using the trial version for 90 days...but....   February 4, 2007
I enjoy Live oncare. Yes, it seems easy, convenient and big deal..one has to download Windows Defender. Oh gee, that takes, wow, at least two minutes. I cannot believe the amount of people complaining because, gosh darn, the defender anti virus program must be downloaded.

As a non techie I do have one con about this program. It's probably my ignorance about my computer. Anyhway, the live onecare Icon..(the little oval/egg shaped icon) went from Green (meaning one's my computer is in good shape) to orange(the PC system is now only fair) all because...WELL..
after a thorugh defrag was done by onecare and a virus check and all else, the final message was that "I HAVE IMPORTANT AND NEW FILES THAT ARE NOT BACKED UP!...quite a few files as a matter of fact. The problem is every time I try to back up the files,I am thrwarted by Live onecare! Either I am not typing in the location as to where the files should b backed up, there is another problem. I am totally lost as to how to proceed. Even when I go to the online centger help area...and read solutions...nothing works for me.
So, what to do? I am still going to rate the live one care as *** 3 stars. Once someone writes back who can help/assist with the "new files that are not backed up" problem, getting my green light status, go ahead signal back from live onecare is my main goal here. I was using Trend Micro Pc_cillian 2006 and I LOVED IT...DEATH...TRULY..........THEN...DAMN...LO AND BEHOLD....Trend Micro made 2007 and it sucked to high heaven.

5 out of 5 stars One Care is really one care   February 3, 2007

It is very easy to use and get set up. It also does it all and leaves me to just surf or cruise the net with no worries. Less intrusive than Norton and fewer bugs than McAfee , I've tried both and One Care works better and lets me get on to the business of computing.

1 out of 5 stars Not for me   January 29, 2007

I have dial-up internet service. This product is constantly wanting me to connect to the Microsoft web site for "updates". It started the day after I finished installing the product...which took about 7 hours total over 3 days.
I stopped updating after the 2nd day because it was taking so long. Now, about 2 weeks later, it says I need to download 85megs of "updates".
It was nice enough to estimate that would be just over 9 hours at my connection speed. My current ISP is pretty good, but will not let me stay on for 9 continuous hours.

4 out of 5 stars Very easy to use...no constant popups   January 27, 2007

I have no technical training in computers, so must speak from purely a consumer's point of view. I do not work for Microsoft, either.

Windows Live Onecare has been on my 3 computers for 6 months and have not had any difficulty with it until today, when I accidently exited out of an update. The program crashed....but I had it back up and running in minutes by simply reinstalling. (A TIP: note your Onecare member email address and password- it will be all you need to restart your subscription.

Having been pestered to death by Norton's constant popups before switching to Onecare, I have pleased with how smoothly Onecare runs and how it carries on without my repeatedly have to click boxes. This is extremely important when you have 2 children who do not bother to read the popups and simply click on anything to get rid of them.

As for the price, it seems pretty competitive particularly when it can be used on 3 computers.

My only complaint is that it does not have a spam blocker like Norton did. Otherwise, I think Onecare is superior to Norton in everything else.
