4 out of 5 stars Getting Better   May 17, 2008

DNS9 is a huge improvement over previous versions but it still 'misunderstands' sometimes. I must say, it can be really comical to read what I thought I said. Training was tedious and took a long time. Any non-standard words have to be typed in and defined or they won't come up. To be honest, I usually revert to typing by hand because I'm not patient with the software. I also get hoarse and a headache talking after awhile.

4 out of 5 stars Product: Good. Company: Bad.   May 14, 2008

Seems to work really well with just a half hour setup. There were some problems with install but all seemed OK with a reboot.
Now, there is an issue with their update system. I get the error 13003 mentioned by others and the update will not execute. So I search their knowledge base for "error 13003" and there is no such thing in their whole knowledge base. So I call using my one free call. The support person says that the problem is clearly detailed in their knowledge base in tech support doc 45xx. OK, I say, how am I to find this tech support document if their search engine is so poor? So, he says he will send me a link to download by email. Even though I am registered, he asks me to read him the email address. 12 hours later and still no link. I can get the service pack via bittorrent, but isn't that kind of silly? I am a paying customer. I should be able to download the darned thing from their site. No one has an auto update mechanism that is flawless. Every other piece of software offers downloads of updaters. The updates are useless without a proper reg code. This keeps most people honest. Methods like this just punish your customers, which is never a good idea. I hope the Nuance sells the application to a more reasonable company.

5 out of 5 stars Dragon Naturaly Speaking   April 29, 2008

I had a voice recognition program several years ago, it was terrible.
With a great deal of trepidation I purchased this product.
After following the instructions for "training" the program, I began using it. IT IS TERRIFIC. I will never have to type a letter again and hope to go on to use its many attributes.

5 out of 5 stars Great Product with the Right Computer !   April 28, 2008

I bought Dragon Naturally Speaking, about three months ago, because I do not like to type, but need to do a lot of typing for work. I installed it on my laptop which is about two years old and has a 1.67MHz CPU and 1 GB of memory. The product worked sporadically well. Sometimes very well and sometimes rather sluggish. I replaced the microphone that came with the software with an eight dollar Plantronics headset. The accuracy of the program improved quite a bit, but I still had problems with the software. This included numerous corruptions of the user files necessitating re-creating these files from the backup files. This was not that difficult to do, but most users probably would have given up using the program at this point. After using Dragon for a while and monitoring memory usage of the machine on the task manager I decided that adding more memory might make the program work better. I added 512 MB of memory to the 1GB I already had in the machine and the program now performs flawlessly. It types on the screen as fast as I can talk, with tremendous accuracy. I not only use this program for typing reports, but I use it for almost everything including my e-mails. I highly recommend this program to anyone who needs to type significant amounts, or who does not like to type, but make sure that your computer has the horsepower to use this program or you will probably be very disappointed.
