I thought I had lost my computer untill I decided to install Vista. Installation was a snap now I have a brand new up to date computer. have Vista on three of my four computers now and I love it.

I needed to install this OS to get the greatest "benefit" from a new system I built for my wife. She uses Photoshop and needed the hottest hardware. I built a dual core AMD 64 bit system with 2G of RAM and installed Vista. It was very difficult to get used to and ultimately I had to disable the application filtering. I have converted all my other computers in the house to Linux - simplyMEPIS. Don't upgrade to Vista unless you have no choice. It is painful.

When i went out and got a brand new PC i wanted one with windows vista already on it because i thought it would be better than xp but its not.I will not go into some long winded thing about vistas features becuase thats a waste of time.Vista is xp with some easier navagation through menus and a pretty new coat of paint...thats it!You will find yourself finding files faster,having better security and taking less time getting new software running with Vista than you did with prior versions of Windows.This OS is not leaps and bounds beyond xp like so many of us desired but it's not a total disaster like we feared either.I know Vista Home Basic is the cheapest version of it but if you do a little research you quickly find there is almost no reason to get the more expensive version of this OS.If you spend a lot of time playing PC games like i do then you will be happy with Vista Home Basic.Oblivion,Fear,Half life 1,Half life 2,Any of the GTA games,C&C,BF2,all of these games run just fine with Vista Home Basic.Every single game i have popped into my drive has installed and run perfectly with this OS.I have heard some complaints from gamers that every version of Vista no matter if it's Home Basic or Ultimate has big trouble with running games but i have had no such problem at all.It seems that the same people that are having trouble with games on Vista have installed the OS themselves,this could be the problem!I strongly recommend having Vista installed by a Pro.This may cost a little money but it will save you A LOT of greef in the long run.Even people that have proudly called themselves geeks for years can have trouble with a new OS so it's best to have this thing installed by a tech that has some Vista training under thier belt.If you got enough cash to burn and are gonna have to upgrade more than 50% of your current PC anyway you should just get a new computer with Vista already on it.The bottom line is that Vista Home basic is an O.K OS but if you already have the latest version of XP running on a pretty powerful PC you should stick with that for now.Get Vista a year from now,it might be worth the price then.:)

I was lucky enough to not have to pay out of pocket for Vista but that is the only good thing. This version is NOT easier to use. It is harder to find things on it. One example of mine is that with XP I could easily find ALL my music and transfer songs between iTunes and Windows Media Player. Now? Yeah I can find the songs after searching for a while but I can't transfer anything, anywhere. The Apple commercial that aired saying Vista asks for permission to continue on EVERYTHING is true. I've had to give it permission to access things I've already used tons of times before on it which is VERY annoying. If I didn't trust the program then why the heck would I be trying to run it???!!! I too encountered compatability issues with my HP All-In-One Printer/Scanner/Copier which I assumed would be compatible with Vista considering I bought the computer it is installed on at the same time I as I got the printer. But nope. I was wrong... I had to spend six hours searching the Internet for tweaks to get it to install. I am able to use all of the features on my HP All-In-One but I'm used to putting a disc in and having to just follow instructions on the screen to install a program. I am by no means computer savvy so don't ask what I did to get the printer software to install. All I remember is that it somehow rolled back my version of Windows to XP to install but didn't completely wipe out Vista... too bad it didn't because I prefer XP so much more. Yeah Vista may be safer to use but if you've got anti-virus software and a firewall up and update them frequently you should be okay. So, all in all if I had the choice I'd go back to XP in a New York minute. Bottom line is that Microsoft found a way to screw some people out of at least $200 for a program that isn't even worth two cents.

I was an XP user until I Vista Home Basic as a graduation gift. I originally decided (after hearing so many bad things about Vista) I would stick with XP, but I decided to try it since I had nothing to lose. After using it for a day, I noticed that it was amazing!!! The interface was a lot smoother, with a more glossy and clean touch. Also, the drivers was AUTOMATIC! I was going to download it from multiple websites, but found out that Vista detected all my hardware (a few older external hardware, a no-name webcam, fingerprint reader, and even a SD card reader), and downloaded and installed the updates for me. This made everything easier since Vista reported all the hardware I had, and installed drivers and software with a few minutes of download and several clicks.
Other excellent improvements which surpass XP include the indexing and searching interface. Vista allows all (or select) files to be indexed, so you can search through all of them within a second. Vista is also quite safer (controls which programs can run with what permissions, has a easy-to-use and customizable firewall, etc).
Overall, Vista is a great improvement over XP. Though at first I may seem that it is not much better due to incompatibility, you can easily get drivers for your hardware. Even more, most XP drivers work with Vista! Improvements include the simplicity: Vista makes managing your computer easier, faster, and more automated. Additionally, the overall feel is much smoother and better looking, and the organization and simplicity makes this operating system truly excellent.
I've used Vista for over a month, and truly suggest you try it for yourself. It only takes a few days before you start to admire all the featured provided by Vista.
