5 out of 5 stars Outlook makes appointments easier   June 19, 2008

Before installing Outlook on my Sony laptop with Vista, I had problems getting my calendar to transfer from my desktop to my laptop and my iPod. I learned that Outlook (not Outlook Express, which I now use on my desktop)is the Gold Standard for E-Mail, appointment calendar and contact functions. So, I put it on my Sony VAIO, which has Microsoft Office 7 (but not one that has Outlook included) installed. It was easy to install Outlook and easy to use. I still have to pretty much enter my Palm contacts manually (where I have about 400 detailed entries). This is because you can only transfer one at a time and it only picks up the Business contact info. I do like the functionality of the E-Mail, Contacts and Calendar and it is very user friendly. Also Outlook can transfer data to my iPod Touch, with reminders included. So, although not perfect, it seems to be the best option for me to update my calendar. I probably will also install it on my older desktop. I believe it will work well with an older version of Office (2000) but may loose a little efficiency, which probably won't be a problem for me.

3 out of 5 stars Why No answers for the BUGS!!!   May 27, 2008

I have always used Microsoft Outlook since I started with computers!!
I must say I have been pretty happy being "Bugless"
Then all of a sudden one day--it happened!! I have had so many things going wrong with my Microsoft Outlook and everytime a window comes up that it is notifying Microsoft about the problem....BUT nothing happened!!
I decided "TIME FOR A NEW Package of Microsoft Outlook" Which I immediately started using....and you know it!!! The window comes up asking for my "email address and password" over and over and over again!!!! Went on to the net to get updates...still does the same thing!!! Well do I have to accept it will always have a few "BUGS"???
Watch this space!!

2 out of 5 stars Unbelievably slow   May 27, 2008

I added Outlook 2007 to the Office 2007 I installed which didn't come with Outlook. I had been using Office 2003 with Outlook 2003 on an XP system and it had worked fine.
Outlook 2007 is incredibly slow to start downloading emails and slow for each email. It may take it 5 minutes to download a couple dozen emails-no attachments or anything. These will download with Mozilla Thunderbird in maybe 20 seconds. And during that time it basically locks up everything else you want to do until it is finished. I've tried turning off everything that has been suggested that may be slowing it down but no success.
I'm now using Thunderbird for my emails. Outlook 2007 was so slow the frustration level just got too high.
I don't recommend buying this. Outlook 2003 was just fine but Outlook 2007 is a disaster on my machine.
