1 out of 5 stars Windows ME for a new generation   February 23, 2008

Windows Vista was rushed out way before they could work all the kinks out. As a result we get driver problems, incompatible software, countless BSODs (blue screens of death), operating system crashes, a butt-ugly GUI which requires twice as much memory as you currently have, UAC (user account control) which makes you click through several prompts to install software, a buggy browser in IE7, annoying WGA nag screens, and last but not least: there are five different incarnations of the operating system and they're all too bloody expensive.

Stick with Windows XP and wait for Windows 7 in 2009!

I don't know why so many people are having troubles with upgrading to Vista. Can only guess they are using the pay and pray method and not checking the compatibility of their setup before buying. I have put Vista on 4 computers now with no problems and they run great. The upgrade was easy, almost like have the retail version. Popped in the disc and it did the rest, would highly recommend this to anyone, just make sure to run the upgrade advissor to be sure your setup is compatable.

Love Windows Vista. Installation as smooth as silk.
Did have to upgrade my video card to achieve full affect of this version.
Also had to upgrade my power supply to support new video card.
These upgrades were easy to do and once completed gave my 6 year old HP computer a fantastic new life.
Be sure to download and run Windows Vista Upgrade Advisor from Microsoft Website before you do anything.

3 out of 5 stars Careful using a mac/windows PC   February 15, 2008

Everything was fine until I tried to install it on a applemac in windows operation. Because there is no mechanical eject on a apple mac, you cannot install the upgrade version, after a long time on the phone with Windows and Apple, Microsoft gave me the right activation code to go live.

This operating system is horrid. So many of my old programs and accessories don't work. Imagine having to throw out a $400 PDA because Microsoft decided to include some new syncing software and screw over everyone just because.. well they think they are being innovative by doing so? I really am going to look at Microsoft alternatives after this computer reaches the end of its life cycle.
