One more time....Vista Bites! December 13, 2007 5 out of 5 found this review helpful
I am NOT a Microsoft hater...I hate lousy software that wastes my time and costs far too much. Bought a new top of the line machine loaded with Vista...returned it the next day. Time to go Apple, if I have to learn a new OS, time to go with what my friends have been urging for years.

Windows is so slow and dorky...why not try a new Mac? They are great.
Changed my mind...Vista really, really, really, really SUCKS December 3, 2007 7 out of 7 found this review helpful
After writing a glowing review about my new laptop that came preinstalled with Vista which worked well for about 24 hours...the horror story began from there. Microsoft must be out of its mind. The program is VERY buggy. I've spent 4 solid days trying to install and reinstall programs...I've even wiped the whole thing and tried a new install to get my new laptop to perform some of the most basic tasks we expect today. I've purchased ALL new basic software (Quicken, new Office, etc)...and even a brand new HP printer that is supposedly Vista certified. I've spent hours on the phone with Dell to resolve a handfull of buggy issues...no results. Folks, I'm working with all new hardware and software...and Vista is not compatible with anything. The program sucks. And I wish I would have stayed with XP. If you want to spend thousands of dollars as I have, only to find Vista sucks, then go ahead. Not even the latest and greatest of everything works on Vista.
SAVE your money and wait, folks. Vista seems great, but nothing works with it. If I could turn back time, I would. I have a new and expensive computer that does not function well, a new printer which after 3 days I can't get to work propertly...and built in CD/DVD drive that keeps locking up the system...not to mention all new software! Vista is so buggy I don't know where to begin to resolve the issues. I'm not a novice either. I know computers really well. Vista is completely buggy!!
Microsoft REALLY screwed up this time.
DON'T DO IT!! You will be sorry!!
Pass on the "anti-microsoft" reviews December 1, 2007 3 out of 12 found this review helpful
Been using Vista Home Edition since it came out and it's far far better than XP ever was. The problem some people have is that they are trying to run Vista on old XP systems. If you have a system that supports Vista (ALL drivers!) then Vista runs rings around XP.
The same people who for years cried out how they hated XP now all of a sudden love XP and hate Vista. Well you can't have it both ways. Microsoft is not perfect and neither is Vista but 6+ months after release and 99% of the bugs are gone and the system is stable and fast.
It runs multi-core better than XP and good drivers are now available from both Nvidia and ATI/AMD as well as sound drivers. Old legacy hardware such as scanners can be a problem but the same thing happened when we moved from Win98 to XP.
So if you have 1 or 2 gig of memory and current hardware then Vista is a dream. Do not install in on top of XP if you can help it. This "can" lead to issues as old drivers may cause conflicts. Do a fresh install of Vista after backing up your data and you will love Vista!
Yes Vista needs more memory than XP but then again XP needed more memory than 98 and 98 needed more memory than 95 etc...
This is hardly unreasonable. We want the OS to do more and then we cry that is takes more memory or a faster CPU? Well last time I checked memory and CPU's were so cheap that the average game cost more :)
So pass on the popular "in" which is to blast anything Microsoft. Download and run the "Vista Check" and if your system passes then you'll love Vista. It's a really sweet OS no matter what Apple or the anti-MS crowd want you to think... most of them have never even run Vista :)

P.S. DRM really bites but that's an industry problem (thanks greedy recording industry!) and not just inherent to Vista
I love Vista! November 25, 2007 2 out of 6 found this review helpful
I started using a beta of Vista over a year ago and and I bought a new laptop with Vista Premium preinstalled in June. I love Vista! I have had no problems with it what-so-ever. I have gotten the Blue Scree Of Death exactly three times in over one year and each time iTunes was the cause.
I find that Vista is considerably faster than XP even though many people seem to think Vista is slower. If you use it the way it comes when it is preinstalled then it is slower. But since I am a geek I know how to make it run very fast. My laptop has a dual-core AMD processor, 1 gig of ram and 256 megs of shared video ram. I have never had it use the swap file yet, 1 gig of ram is more than enough. Of course, when I bought it the thing had 65 programs running in memory but when I got done customizing it then it only has 25 programs running in memory. I also uninstalled Norton since I don't like anti-virus software. I turned off UAC, indexing, the defrager (I use a different one once a week) and a few other things that slow it down. It runs rings around XP. I do keep Aero turned on, since I love the effects.
I can tell by reading the other reviews of this product that there are a lot of reviewers here who use Linux and Mac and have never used Vista in their entire life and never will. I feel sorry for those pathetic individuals that get their jollies bad mouthing products just because they use something else. Mircosoft won the operating system wars 15 years ago. Mac and Linux fans need to get over it and move on.
