ok September 7, 2007 The new version is ok. The security part of it is the downfall, it's difficult to figure out. I still can't get it to do what the older version did. My children can get on the internet whenever they want, even though I set times for them. And don't expect any rebate back from McAfee-as usual.
Terrible Product September 1, 2007 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I used to be OK with McAfee until several months ago when they made me change to their new interface. It's horrid. It changed all my settings, so I had to go back in and reset everything which was a nightmare because with the new interface you have to figure out how to get to settings. This program is a memory hog. Right now it's taking up at least 64,844Kb of memory and I don't even have all the modules installed. It's also expensive to keep up with every year. They keep adding modules too that they recommend you buy that keeps adding to the cost. My subscription expires this month and I'm finally DONE with McAfee.
Hijacks and bogs down your computer for hours!!! August 31, 2007 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
I absolutely hate McAvfee!!! I don't know what these designers were thinking when they made this product. Most of the features are useless and features your computer already has such as disc cleanup and defrag. It automatically runs and scans when I turn on my computer. I'm not completely computer illiterate but I can't figure out how to turn it off or stop scanning. It totally bogs down my computer, using 100% of my CPU. I can't do ANYTHING until it is done, which is usually 2-3 hours. I can't get it to stop using task manager. It's almost as bad as having a bad virus on my computer. At times I would rather just uninstall it and let my computer be vulnerable. At least I would be able to get things done for a while. The little pulsating target icon in the task bar showing that it is scanning your computer (very very slowly) is so annoying and torturous, it drives nuts. This product renders my computer useless most of the time. I really hate it and I'm in the process of getting something else to replace it. I DO NOT recommend using this product. If it provided free through your ISP you should seriously think about getting something else, like MS Live One, and never ever install McAfee.
15 Days August 27, 2007 1 out of 4 found this review helpful
I'm giving this item 3 stars since that seems to be a "medium" rating. In actual fact I didn't even open the box. When I ordered it from Amazon the price was $49.99 less a $45 rebate which would bring the final price to $4.99. Not bad. HOWEVER, when I read the fine print on the rebate sticker on the box (thankfully before breaking the seal) I discovered that the rebate reqest must be postmarked no more than 15 days from the date on the receipt. Since the date on an Amazon packing slip is the date of the original order it was already too late to submit the rebate. I phoned McAfee customer service and asked if an exception could be made. After being given another number to call the answer was "no." So I returned it. It wound up costing me postage and I'm sure Amazon would have preferred to have a sale rather than a return. I went to a store and bought Norton's equivalent software. After their costing both me and Amazon time and money I at least deprived McAfee of the sale.
A Virus All Unto it's Own August 24, 2007 3 out of 6 found this review helpful
Let's not even talk about protection issues from outside sources. Mcafee poses more problems than it will ever prevent. Last week multitudes of users were unable to connect to the internet, because of an McAfee update. The endless system resources it uses. Crashes that are almost impossible to recover from, and cut and paste support, make this entire product useless.
Mcafee's new Site Advisor product is operated by bots and recently by people with nothing better to do, than trash their competitions sites. McAfee operates this component as a competition among reviewers to see who can hammer the most sites. Anyone can be a reviewer, it requires no expertise, just an agenda and the desire to compete. The one consistency throughout the reviews was the dislike of affiliate marketing, which Amazon, Ebay and McAfee all use.
I would advise everyone to steer clear of this beast as it is trying to force it's meaningless rating system on the search engines. The end result is, McAfee controls the content you see. If you want big brother, this is the product for you. All Others Steer Clear. BTW, I am a McAfee Advisor site reviewer.
