5 out of 5 stars Addictive and pleasant   May 25, 2008

I don't pay the game, I bought it for my two teenage daughter to see if I could find something for them to do other than chat in the internet ALL DAY and IT WORKED. They just can't seem to turn them off, they each has replicated our family in the game and are having a blast. Now I have to figure out what to do to get them away from the game. Oh well!

I have seen them play and it looks like a very entertaining game, great graphics, great interface, no nudity, bad words or violence, I am very pleased with my purchase.

1 out of 5 stars WARNING not for kids!   May 16, 2008

My wife bought this for my 1st grade daughter. I pointed out to the wife that it probably was not appropriate for her since it was rated T for Teen and had sexual content. I mentioned this on several occasions. Imagine my shock when I walked in and saw my daughter watching a naked couple frolicking in the sack. She tried to cover up the screen with her little hand and was embarrassed. I told her "let's go get Mom" and when we returned the man had left the room, but the woman was in bed rubbing her privates. Again, NOT APPROPRIATE FOR KIDS!!!

4 out of 5 stars A great concept   April 24, 2008

Before I begin, I'd like to note that I'm just giving my impression of the game, and it is not necessarily going to be the same as yours. That said, the game itself is a very well designed simulation of what can be considered real life. You have to meet the needs of each of your sims, which can be considered either your personal avatars or pets (depending on how you look at it) in the world of The Sims 2. I found the level of customization to be impressive, especially with the numerous mod sites online, and the ease with which you can mod the game. The game play is not too different from the first game, but they did fix a lot of annoying bugs and complaints I had about it.
The reason that this game doesn't get 5 stars is that additional content costs $20 for each set you buy. The problem is that in the regular game, after a certain point in time you will have bought all of the best items and have completed your career track. After this happens, there isn't much left to do short of either trying to seduce every sim in the neighborhood or murder them depending on your inclination. The extra content packs, while adding content, add very little. Sure it's fun to be a vampire, but only for a couple of hours and then it just loses its charm. Other packs don't even feature anything as nifty as that, such as clothing packs, and should have just been free updates. I found the game only entertained me for a couple of weeks before it stopped being all that fun.
However, this is just me. Other people may become obsessed with building a perfectly controlled community with its own story lines and role play using the sims, others will think the game is the dumbest thing they've ever played (like my roommate). I suggest getting the demo and seeing how much you like it.

5 out of 5 stars Greatest game ever made.   March 22, 2008

This is the best game I have EVER played. I love being able to control somebody else's life. Since it has been my lifelong goal to become an architect, I like being able to design your own home. The only con is that it takes awhile to get used to, but that isn't big enough to demote it a star. Buy this game, its worth the dough

5 out of 5 stars What's The Point?   March 6, 2008

I love The Sims, but I don't understand the point of releasing a "deluxe" pack with just the base game and one expansion pack. To me, it seems more logical to wait until all of the expansion packs have been released, then put out a Complete Collection, like they did with The Sims 1. Or, at least, throw in a couple more expansions than just Nightlife.

Maybe this "deluxe edition" is more convenient for some people, but I myself just do not get the point. Ah well, anything to make an extra buck on EA's part.

However, The Sims 2 is probably the greatest game I've ever played, and the Nightlife expansion is enjoyable enough. My advice is buy this Deluxe Edition only if you're new to TS2, and haven't yet bought the base game individually.

5 stars for the game itself, not this Deluxe Edition.
