3 out of 5 stars useful, but with limitations and a bit pricey   August 7, 2008

This can be quite useful to get the first feeling about the language as well as a surprisingly good tool for building up a basic vocabulary. However, it isn't a self-sufficient material for language learning - almost certainly you will need additional textbook(s) and/or teacher.

One, often noted, shortcoming of Rosetta Stone materials is complete lack of cultural context (the same set of pictures is reused for quite a number of languages). Still, the things are probably not as bad as they might be, since anhyway the main thing you will learn from this is vocabulary and not the skills at casual conversations (although the overrepresentations of some words, which probably are hardly used elsewhere but american english (e.g. "cowboy"), is a bit annoying). And apart from just having little use, such borrowed nouns usually also tend to be indeclinable in Greek!

A more important limitation, probably, is organization/ordering of pictures - beeing the same for a number of languages it is hardly the best for demonstrating the most important grammatical features of a particular language (such as tenses, declinations etc).

The bottom line - if you can get your hands on it, I would recommend at least to have a try. The official price tag, however, seems to be far too inflated for what these materials really contains - will not recommended buying without trying first and seeing, whether this really suits you.

5 out of 5 stars Try it   February 10, 2008

The complete Greek alphabet is unavailable on most computers in the USA; in other words, the only real problem with this software involves learning how to write as well as one may speak, listen, or read the language upon completion. The program helps one increase his or her vocabulary by making the differences that exist between speaking and reading much clearer.

4 out of 5 stars learn language   February 9, 2008

I was using a different online language site prior to the purchase of the Rosetta Stone software. This software really helps you to speak the language easier because it shows the gender of words with use instead of memorizing the gender of the words. Also, it is very easy to nagivate on the software.

5 out of 5 stars I can't believe it is so good!   February 8, 2008

This is a very clever and very easy way to learn Greek. I can't believe the vocabulary I have learned since using it only 3 weeks. I am commited to this product and wish when I was younger there was somethng like this on the market.

It is actually fun doing the exercises and my Greek born husband is so proud of me!

5 out of 5 stars Well worth it!   November 29, 2007

The Rosetta stone is well worth the money! I was very skeptical about this product. However, once I loaded it in the computer I was off to a running start. It is so much easier to retain the information with words, sounds, and pictures with an interactive format.
I highly recommend this product to anyone trying to learn on their own, or to supplement currant foreign language classes (like I am doing). I surprise my Greek teacher with extra words and phrases in each class.
If you want to learn a foreign language quickly, BUY THIS PRODUCT!
