2 out of 5 stars You don't HAVE to upgrade   December 4, 2007

Just so you know. In spite of the FUD Quicken puts out you can still use older versions, e.g., 2003 to download QIF files. Also, all 3 of my financial institutions still provide QIF downloads.

Actually it APPEARS you can use Web Connect. Files download but when you try to import, Quicken does a behind the scenes check and gives a confusing error message that ends in "Try again later". I assume they check your Quicken version and turn off the import. This bugs me so much I'll use 2003 until it really dies. Hope this review doesn't speed up the process :)

One minor problem: my bank's QIF file puts out dates as '12'03'07' so you have to search and replace so it looks like 12/03/2007.

5 out of 5 stars Works Fine with 32 bit Vista   December 4, 2007

I've used Quicken since 1994. My checkbook register in quicken actually starts then, so I have alot of data. I've only bought 2 other quicken programs since, early quicken 95 and quicken 2000, never seeing a reason to upgrade since I don't use it to download anything. I use Money for my investments Quicken is just a checkbbook register. So I was hesitant to upgrade but I purchased a Microsoft Vista pc and had no choice. My quicken 2000 didn't run correctly in it. I just installed quicken 08 and it went in without a problem. I just used my memory stick to restore back and it had all my data going back to 94. I wish it had less bells and whistles like my 2000 had but other tham that it works flawlessly. I enter everything manually so I'm not sure with the downloading but for me it does what's it suppose to and without error. I would recommend this.

I've been a Quicken user for years, and have gone through a number of upgrades over that time - probably six. This is by far the buggiest and most inconvenient change I've ever made. There are a number of areas where they seem to have regressed in their user friendliness. Never before have I considered switching to MS Money - unless these problems are quickly addressed and corrected Intuit has lost me as a customer.

I've reported a number of problems. They absolutely do not respond or provide any form of good customer service.

Be very hesitant before buying this version.

Vast improvement over my prior Quicken 2005, yet it remains familiar to facilitate a short learning curve. I especially like the new Tabs feature.

1 out of 5 stars Crummy program   November 20, 2007

If Quicken 2008 Deluxe is anything like 2007 Deluxe, don't buy it. I have 2007 Deluxe and find that I cannot print reports to my laser printer. I got zero help from Quicken tech support, other than them telling me that if the printer drivers for my printer don't work, I should try lots of other random printer drivers. I got on some discussion groups and found that a bunch of other people had the same problem and found it unsolvable.
Despite the fact I can't print reports, I use the program and find it non-intuitive and awkward to operate. I'm amazed at how user unfriendly the program is in view of Quicken's market position. Hopefully someone will come along one of these days and give us a more user friendly program that works.
