Functional, but Oh So SLOW! November 3, 2007 8 out of 8 found this review helpful
I'm a long time Quicken user and fan, but I don't recommend Quicken 2008. At least not until laptops are 2x faster than they are today. I've got a 2GHz laptop with 2GB RAM and entering transactions or accepting downloaded transactions is rediculously slow. The screen blinks and shakes and seconds later finally completes. It's not like I asked for a 10 year history!
Intuit, fix it and I'll be back. Until then...I guess I'll wait for Intel to release a 10GHz laptop.
Not Even A Fully Functional Program, Much Less An "Upgrade"! October 29, 2007 23 out of 23 found this review helpful
This is quite possibly the worst program "upgrade" I've ever installed on my computer. All of the old glitches are still in there, along with a new one. One of my financial institutions occasionally had errors during the One Step Update when I used Quicken 2005. Now it ALWAYS has an error, so the transactions are impossible to update using the One Step Update, and instead of this problem just being with one financial institution it occurs with TWO of my banks now! In order to get the transactions into the register, I have to log on to my bank's website and export them to Quicken. Talk about an enormous hassle! And Intuit's technical support is absolutely horrendous. I looked through their online information and tried the potential solutions listed there. When none of those worked, I emailed tech support telling them about my problem and what I had already tried. They don't even seem to have read my whole email because they replied telling me to do exactly the steps I'd already taken & summarized in my email. When I told them I'd already done those things, they replied and told me to try them again...and again, and again. The only useful information their tech support provided me with is this, and I quote:
"Although Intuit has not describe the maximum file size we can have however we suggest customers to have 1-2 years of data."
If you planned to trend a couple years worth of data to see how well your annual budget is working, or how nicely your long-term investments are performing, good luck!
So after owning this program for less than two weeks, I will be sending it back to get a refund. It has been a total waste of my time trying to use this program, and I don't recommend it to anyone.
Quicken A Serious Learning Curve October 28, 2007 2 out of 3 found this review helpful
They should've put my picture on the box with the title "Don't Sell It To This Idiot." I never used this type of software, so there was a serious learning curve due to my inexperience, but worth it. Setup and installation was silky smooth. When I entered my credit cards, and banking info, it downloaded it all effortlessly, yeah. I kept messing myself up by choosing (business) salary for my take home check, hence it was listed as a deduction, instead of a deposit; drove me nuts till I figured it out. The Help menu, did help. Outside of that I now realize how desperately poor I am, ha, ha. Good program.
Quicken still good October 27, 2007 4 out of 13 found this review helpful
I don't think I could do my check book the old fashioned way anymore. This version has some nice changes, but is still easy to work.
Nothing new - same old problems October 25, 2007 51 out of 52 found this review helpful
If you already own an earlier version of Quicken within the last couple of years, save your money and don't bother with this. Quicken has added a lot of stupid "enhancements" that are cosmetic, and often make it worse - for example, the new way they highlight the transaction you are looking at, which partially blocks the neighboring transaction, or the "renaming" function, which is way too aggressive. This, for example, renamed a restaurant named Bay Ridge to ebay, and a parking facility called avistar into avis. This caused me much time on the phone with the merchant trying to resolve the charge until I figured it out.
Meanwhile, they have completely failed to repair some of the key problems that have existed for several versions, and have failed to add any meaningful or useful enhancements. I returned this version to Quicken. I would suggest that, unless you have a strong reason to switch, or are a new Quicken user, you save your money and work with the version you have.
The old days of Intuit being a customer focused organization which really understands the customers' needs and develops their software accordingly are long gone. Evidently, Intuit is internally focused and is not paying attention to their users any more.
