1 out of 5 stars BE AWARE!   June 10, 2008

I have been a loyal Quicken user for years. Starting with the 2007 Deluxe program, the program has been committing some pretty serious errors. The program downloads duplicate entries from online banking, credit cards, etc. Check the discussion web on Quicken online under "duplicate entries". Quicken has become so complacent that they have not bothered to create a fix for past customers and they apparently have the same problem with 2008 version. If I could give less than one star, I would. Until this problem arose, I would have highly recommended the program. Now, I would highly recommend that, until a fix is issued, the program is too unreliable and definitely not worth the hassle.

The ability to program a list of future payments is very useful and it saves a lot of time. It makes very easy writing the checks that repeat every month.
There arn't many color selections for the screen and the fonts are a little too small for comfort, it takes getting use to it, specially after working for many years witht the previous version with larger fonts. I tried to increase the font size but did not find a way to do it. Maybe there is; if so, it is not very easily accessible.
I do not use the internet connection abilities of the software so I cannot comment on those.

1 out of 5 stars Completely broken software   June 1, 2008

I've used quicken for over a decade and it's always just sorta been fine and worked. I upgraded from 2006 to 2008 and right off the software's help system didn't work for some obscure ActiveX reason. After using the software for 4 months it just stopped downloading transactions from my banks (the main use case for me). When I called tech support I got an Indian call center where the person had difficulty speaking English and following my problem. Additionally I was told I would have to pay $25 to fix the problem. After 1 hour on the phone and no progress being made I politely excused myself and tried reinstalling the software. After the reinstall it completely doesn't work, just locking up hard when I try to restore my 4 months of precious financial data.
I'm a software engineer skilled in creating windows applications so I'm not just a confused and wayward user. I'm shocked that such a major software release could be so fundamentally broken. They simply should not be selling this as a viable product and I certainly would not recommend you buying it.

I like the product as I have used it for years. I am having some difficulty downloading info from Wachovia Securities. I have purchased the book "Quicken 2008" and have yet to find advice on downloading info. I will keep searching.

5 out of 5 stars I paid for Quicken, even though Microsoft Money came with my computer.   May 30, 2008
I just want the basics, something that's easy to use whether I choose to do online updates or do things manually. I know that there are different schools of thought, but I find that Quicken is so much more intuitive than what Microsoft offers.
