5 out of 5 stars Fusion just works well   June 29, 2008
I was used to Vista at the office and Quicken for Windows did not convert to Quicken for Apple. I wanted an iMac though so VMware's Fusion was the answer. It makes switching between the Appple OS and Vista OS as easy as going from one program to another. And Microsoft's Office 2008 is still behind the PC version, Office 2007. Again, some of my Office 2007 files, especially Excel files using conditional formatting did not work with Office 2008. Dear Microsoft, you are shortchanging you Apple customers.

3 out of 5 stars Good option for accessing some of the best of pc and mac   June 22, 2008

I recently switched from PC to mac on the exhortation of several mac users who said that it was a great option even for business people as most business software now was available in mac version. turns out that that is not exactly the case - while software like Quicken is available, it is really out-dated relative to the windows version. SO after many headaches, i resorted to running windows on my mac, using VMware Fusion. It works pretty well, allowing me to run all the programs i need without having to reboot the computer in one OS or the other. I can also drag files across the interface. Some things are a little clunky. For example, I can not access my bluetooth in windows to sync my treo with my outlook without losing the ability to give it back to mac for my wireless keyboard and mouse. Also, if i want to use firefox as my browser, I need to have a mac and a windows version installed as I can't link from windows software like outlook to mac version of Firefox. But overall it's a good interim solution till Apple gets enough developers writing business software for the mac OS

4 out of 5 stars VMWARE FUSION   June 13, 2008
This product was very easy to install on my Mac and Windows Vista loaded without incident. Thus far the Windows environment has worked without any problems. Windows seems to run faster than on a PC. New programs and updates have been added without difficulty. The only problems I have had is getting updates to load into Fusion and getting my wireless HP printer to work in Windows programs. Still working on solutions to these.

5 out of 5 stars VMFusion beats Parallels by a mile   June 11, 2008
As a Mac user, I have been very disappointed with the virtual machine provided by Parallels so I tried VM Fusion. What a difference! It is Mac native and it shows. The speed has improved by about 30% and so far, no crashes which is very Mac-like!

5 out of 5 stars Does what it says on the box   June 9, 2008

It's rather addicting to keep booting up Windows XP Pro and running it even when I don't need it. Being an old hand at Mac, I remember doing the same thing when running SoftWindows with Windows 3.1 on my Performa all the way back in 1996...

Yeah, this is nothing like that.

In terms of performance, I can't tell any difference between running this product on my iMac and working on a Windows PC. At my old job we used Parallels, and that ran great, too, but I can tell that this is faster. There are only two shortcomings of this product: the first is that I can't use any Firewire devices with the virtual machine (like Parallels), and the second is that it doesn't allow me to explore the virtual machine's files through the Mac's Finder (which Parallels can do). So, if I could, I'd actually rate this product four-and-a-half stars, but as neither of those factors are deal-breakers, they're not significant enough to me to take away from a five-star rating.
