4 out of 5 stars Just Microsoft   June 8, 2008
This is a good product now, which will be always developing new improvements, as well as its environment

4 out of 5 stars Windows One Care Live is Great for Home Users!   June 7, 2008
I would like to share with others that this product is very very good and easy to install, set-up and use for the average home user. There are many other products on the market, but some require knowledge and experience beyond what most of us have at the layman level. I would recommend this product for anyone with a home computer needing protection (and they all do!).

4 out of 5 stars OneCare is just that.   June 4, 2008

OneCare works for us. It is a good all around integrated product for those of us who like to keep maintenance of computers simple but effective. Some of the reviews are critical because most of the functions of OneCare are already available usually at no cost. True, but OneCare has all the functions bundled into one package, including network management. And all 3 of our computers (finally) now have the same antivirus/malware protection which can be monitored from the OneCare hub computer. We have had Norton's, then McAfee protection but got fed up with them because the latest versions really bogged the computers when doing scans, and McAfee seemed to blow my system up every few months when some update or other was automatically downloaded. I tried the OneCare trial about 6 months ago, then bought the CD 3 months ago (no cost after rebates). OneCare was easy to install provided one reads the instructions with no problems on any of our computers.
Pluses:
Antivirus scans can be scheduled. The full scan (Tuneup) does bog the system down for awhile, but I have it scheduled for only once a month at off hours. And it completes the full Tuneup alot faster than McAfee. The daily incremental scans are fast and have little effect on the system.

BACKUP: It is easy to set up and schedule for a full backup or incremental backup. I do not use it much for my desktop because I do my data backups the old fashioned way on CD's, but my wife backs up her huge photo files and data (she is a professional photographer) regularly to an external drive. The laptop also backs up to the same hardrive when we power it up using the OneCare circle, accessing the hardrive through the router and my wife's computer.

NETWORKING: Using the one care circle, it is easy and simple to access our external hardware....two printers, two scanners, two external drives. And they do not need to be plugged into the router; they are shared through the computers which are on the network. Very simple and easy to manage. Even the laptop with wireless can read the scanners and harddrives now without plugging cords all over the room.

TUNEUP: This runs a full virus scan, defrag, and dumps the temp files, and checks for unused files/programs. I used to do all this stuff when I got around to it which was sometimes months. Now OneCare does it in the background on a user set schedule. Very nice.

Minuses:
At $50 a pop, it is a little pricey but not bad considering it covers 3 computers. We probably got by for less before because we always looked for McAfee on specials. But then this copy of OneCare did not cost us anything after rebates, and hopefully when the time comes we can get a deal on a renewal or just buy another hardcopy on a deal and just start a new subscription.

I'm a little concerned about the reviewer's comments about the automatic renewal of OneCare charged to a credit card after one year. I hate auto-renewals and if this happens I will be dumping OneCare. But then since I did not download OneCare but bought the hard CD, I do not think Microsoft has my credit card info.

After downloading Window XP SP3 last week, my computer would bog to a snails pace for 5-10 minutes on startup. I traced this to MsMpEng.exe hogging the CPU. This process apparently has something to do with the OneCare full virus/spyware scan, so I double checked that the full scan was just scheduled monthly in OneCare. After re-entering the schedule in OneCare, this slowdown has stopped, at least for now. This is the only reason for the 4 star rating rather than 5 stars.

In a lump, I recommend OneCare for anyone who has a distaste for jumping through hoops to maintain computers, especially for more than one computer. And look for hot deals when renewal time is approaching to keep the cost down.

5 out of 5 stars Peace of mind   June 1, 2008
After rebate, a great deal for integrated antivirus, printer sharing and a nice centralized backup feature. The only downside is that you can only have 3 computers per "Live ID". One thing that is nice is that you can buy an extra copy ahead of time and when your expiration comes up, you can just enter in the license key from your extra copy, and you're set for 1 more year. This policy may change at some point if a new version comes out. If they charged retail I would not use this product.

2 out of 5 stars Windows Live OneCare 2.0   May 31, 2008

I would love to go back and read all of the same errors that I ran into, but anyone who knows how to research anything, will know that if you use Google.com or yahoo.com and get to [...]>LIVE ONE Care will see among the first errors every eror I ran into with this "NEW" CD as My laptop and my PC botyh called out errors, and demanded everytime I tried to install the utility, that I "do some troubleshooting on my own"...I did as I usually do, I troubleshot the program until I removed my Trial Program out of my laptop and reinstalled it and on the third time, it took, so that was that and this program take a night sleep to get it installed as it is slow and drawn out, so I went back to my P.C., an H.P. Pavilion a610n and it took me two trials after removing every supposed obstacle, such as my Mc Afee Firewall, as This has a firewall, but not a nifty as McAfee's, McAffee's firewall will allow you to track and pings all uninvited intruders, reports them to you, and reports the name , ISP, IP #, and email names of said intruders, so I lose on this one straight away.
I still removed REG CURE as I decided that it screwed up to many other operations and norm'l operations of my simple Bible Libraries, so I considered it no loss, to shut it down temp.
I still have to uninstall and do a "clean Install" of the Live Care "FourstringsRick@gmail.com
