reqs and problems February 22, 2008 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
ok since they are NOT listed anyplace i can see in the product description and they SHOULD be; these are the required spec's for a pc to run this game:
Minimum:(aka required to run) CPU: Intel 2.4 GHz+ / AMD 2.0 GHz+ CPU Speed: 2.4 GHz System RAM: 1 GB Operating System: Windows XP or Vista Video Card: NVIDIA Geforce 6600+ / ATI x700+
which means that the requirements for this game are its biggest down fall the game its self is $50 add to it the $100 - $300 you could spend JUST for a video card to run game (not to mention the other things you may need) makes the game not worth the purchase. (if you don't have a system that can run it)
the game its self is great...the use of cover and squad tactics really works. the levels are stunning from the opening in the ruined city to the nightfall to the search of the mines; the levels are varied and interesting. wish i could say the same for the enemies, unfortunately you face about 10 enemies and 5 of them are boss fights, 3 of them you fight the entire game, and the other two are only seen in certain parts of the game. which while it adds to the games "world" constantly fighting the same enemies gets boring very quickly. on the plus side the pc version includes the latest gears of war content...stuff that had been released on microsofts xbox live service, which includes a new chapter in the single player story.
the gameplay and "world" of the game are done very well, however the repetitive enemies and i said before the system requirements can have you spending more money on your system just to play the game then the game actually costs which means this game gets a total of 3 stars
bottom line if you have the system for it then consider buying this game; if you don't have the system for it your best option is getting the 360 version

This game took me 2 days to get it to load. I have started and lost my saved games at least half a dozen times. There appears to be no fix coming from anywhere. A loss of $50 for me but a lesson learned: never buy anything that says games for Windows. Your are forced to log on like A Steam account for Halflife 2. I guess they want to hold your hand...god forbid anyone play this game for free!!
Utter Rubbish February 14, 2008 0 out of 3 found this review helpful
I thought this game would be fun but it has many bugs and past the bugs it's very boring. I reccommend buying WoW or Sims, they are much better and more polished games.
Gears of War - PC version February 10, 2008 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
I heard about this game on the X-box and it always looked really cool. I was really excited when a PC version finally came out, since that's what I have. What a frustrating, time consuming, disappointment! DON'T BUY THIS GAME FOR THE PC. First, it takes 40 minutes to install because of the complicated process it uses. After you're finally done, the first thing it does when you run it is to tell you that your Windows drivers for things like your graphics card and processor! aren't good enough and you must go get the latest, otherwise the game may crash. After an hour collecting and installing those, you run it and . . . it continually crashes anyway. The basic problem with this game is that it says Microsoft on the box. With 25 years experience as a software designer, I'm so tired of Microsoft pumping out s*&% and expecting you to take it just because of who they are, I've finally decided that unless I absolutely can't avoid it, I will never buy a Microsoft product again. That goes for this game. The game may be great, but you'll never know because until Microsoft gets around to releasing major rewrites some time in the future, it's not going to run on your PC. DON'T THROW YOUR MONEY AWAY.
Game saves lost! February 8, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This is a really fun game to play. It has a learning curve for the cover system. I can't believe that my game saves disappeared twice. The first time I was close to the beginning so it didn't bother me much, but the second time I was very far into the game. I even installed the patch 1.1. I'm not going to play through this game again until it is fixed. Wait for a while to buy this game. Many people are posting about this problem. I don't think the game saves to your hard drive. You can't backup or download game saves. It is saved on a website using some stupid microsoft online crap.
