2 out of 5 stars Not a comprehensive solution. Poor support.   February 9, 2008

The software does a decent job of backing up data and imaging disks. However, in my case, I bought it for its advertised Startup Recovery Manager which is supposed to allow you to restore your PC's system state in the event its startup files get corrupted. Unfortunately, it did not work as advertised. When I contacted tech support about this issue by email, I received the following response:

"Please note that it's not possible to restore system state backup that way. In order to restore it, you need to run Acronis True Image 11 Home in Windows Environment, then choose this backup archive from Acronis Secure Zone and proceed with restoration."

If I could start my PC in a Windows environment, I wouldn't need to restore the system state, now would I? Acronis Tech support appears to be staffed by a bunch of leftover Soviet bureaucrats who just don't get the job done.

The Secure Zone and Startup Recovery Manager flat don't work on my PC - even though Acronis says the software is compatible with Windows 2000. I spent hours testing it today. The worst news is that in a couple of instances, Startup Recovery Manager says it completed restoration of test files, when in fact, it did not. So, if you're going to rely on this product to recover your data, you'd better test it thoroughly before you actually need it.

If you just need disk imaging and data backup, this software will probably be OK. If you're looking for a comprehensive PC data recovery solution, you'll be better off looking somewhere else!

5 out of 5 stars Quality Backup and Imaging Software   February 9, 2008

I bought this software to image my existing hard drive to a new, larger hard drive. I'd previously tried imaging my existing drive with Norton Ghost, but my computer would not boot with the new drive after Ghost put the image on it. Acronis True Image 11 imaged my existing drive to my new drive without a hitch and my computer booted immediatley using the new drive. My only negative with Acronis True Image is that it modified my system so that Ghost no longer worked which meant that all my old Ghost backups were no longer available in an emergency. I've been using True Image as my backup software for a couple of weeks now and it appears to be doing a good job so the fact that I can't run Ghost any more is no longer a problem.

4 out of 5 stars Nice product   February 9, 2008

I am very pleased with this product. there is one feature I wish this product had, I do incremental backup and there is no auotmatic way to say every X days do a full backup followed by y days of incrementals.

1 out of 5 stars Looking good isn't good enough   February 3, 2008

It'd be so nice if this program actually worked. It looks great, setup's a breeze, the whole process makes sense.

Unfortunately, it fails across the board. Here's two quick points: scheduling is totally unreliable and prior backups are ignored. Add in customer support that seems to believe everything's just fine no matter how problems are explained and you end up with a product failure.

If I haven't warned you off well enough, take a look at their support forum before you buy this.

4 out of 5 stars Complete back-up software   January 28, 2008

The Acronis v11 was very easy to use and "I think" I now have a complete backup of my total computer stored on a remote hard drive. The only complaint I have is that there seems to be no easy way to test that the back-up will in fact work if needed. Aside from that I am very pleased with this product
