New type of windows application WPF not so great August 16, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Installation was a problem. I needed to contact Microsoft and they needed to use a Cleanup Utility to uninstall parts of .net so the installation would work. Windows form applications seem to be about the same. They are pushing a new type of windows application called WPF. The problem with WPF is the toolbox is missing many of the useful controls which exist on the Windows Form Application. WPF forces you to use XAML to code these if you want these controls. I believe Microsoft is trying to incorporate their Expression Web product into Visual Studio with WPF. A software developer should not need to deal with XAML. This should be completely hidden. If someone does web development with Dreamweaver for example, you can access the xml if you want, but you almost never have to. I think WPF is a huge step backwards as far as ease of use. Fortunately you can avoid using WPF and still use a Windows Form Application which is about the same as Visual Studio 2005.
Simple yet powerful July 25, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I have used Visual Studio for personal projects for many years, although I didn't upgrade to VS2005 so I was impressed by many of the improvements that I see including the inclusion of the latest technologies for web design. It's made working through project much easier and the intellitype make selection of the correct command very intuitive. It definitely hits the mark for me
better than ever June 8, 2008 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
This is definately the best Visual Studio ever. I've been using it ever since the beta was released and bought the upgrade the very day my beta expired. I am amazed that so many things I wish VS did, now it does. I recently had to develop something in VS 2003 [due to framework requirements] and felt totally crippled after having the luxuary of Visual Studio 2008. Definately worth the upgrade!
