MAC Office adequate May 9, 2008 This works okay, but does not have the full features of the Windows version. A disappointment for those of us who work with clients sending in files from the Windows version which includes Access, Publisher, etc.
Stick with 2004. Avoid the Ice Age that is 2008. May 5, 2008 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
I'm a scientist and therefore need to use programs such as Excel frequently to crunch my data. I had hoped that Excel 2008 would improve the speed of, say, cut and paste operations on files with 3,000 or so rows. Boy was I let down. An operation that might take two seconds in Excel 2004 would take twelve seconds in 2008. That's going from slow to glacial, in my opinion. So much for Intel native speed! I have a MBP Core Duo 2.16 GHz.
So far so good May 4, 2008 I've read a lot of negative reviews but really, honestly, I don't see it. It hasn't crashed on me, ever. I run an intel-based macbook pro with 2gig ram which isn't the best out there, but it's not bad. I just got the update tonight, so if it was going to crash on me it would have. Word refuses to copy-paste some graphics from web browsers and such which is a bummer, but I found that it won't do it in 2004 either (running 2004 on school machines still). Never used excel much except for budgeting, I wasn't impressed with the budget template but I never really am. Entourage is working fine, all except I have it set to sync with iCal and it doesn't seem to be syncing, but I don't know how to stimulate that yet. It's not running insanely slow or anything. The machines running 2004 at the school run slower so far. I don't use powerpoint really. Overall I think that office compatibility is a necessity in this day and age and I've got that with 2008. I'm keeping it.
Slow and kludgy May 3, 2008 All components are slow and kludgy. Excel loses formulas and recent files. Update doesn't cange anything. luckily the older versions still work.
Horrible upgrade May 3, 2008 2 out of 3 found this review helpful
Office 2004 was much more reliable and the fact that the new version has less features is ridiculous. Microsoft has finally lost me as a customer completely. I recently purchased iWork and it is performing much better. It may not be as robust as Microsoft, but it suits my needs and doesn't crash constantly like Office 2008.
