5 out of 5 stars Fantastic   June 1, 2007
I like the chap below do not understand the bad reviews. Until I get my new machine on Monday I have been using my laptop which is fairly good spec, but by no means incredibly fast and Premeire runs quickly and reliably.

Exporting videos (5 minute video) takes 4-5 minutes, I can edit quickly in realtime with no problems at all.

When I get my new machine I am sure it will run even better. Well done Adobe.

People with problems worth making sure all the settings / codecs are correct, both of which could cause performance problems.

5 out of 5 stars Cut   March 25, 2007

Adobe Premiere is far from the most advanced non-linear video editing package you can get however let me make this one comment.

- Editing is all about cutting and not fancy effects. The strength of the project is what is in front of and behind the camera not fancy effects.

I would never recommend using any of the effects on any of the non-linear video editing packages anyway. Get dedicated effects packages if you really want to do your special effects well.

In short Adobe Premiere is the BEST cutting software and the EASIEST to use. The learning curve is slightly steep but you will be cutting your footage within a day or two with this one.

An editor cuts and arranges media. Adobe Premiere does that perfectly. I recommend this like no other for the price but if you are looking for pro packages then go elsewhere and be prepared to pay five figures with extra hardware. If you want special FX this has some but no pro uses these effects tool. Premiere is a first class cutting tool. Go to Discreet products for FX.

5 out of 5 stars Warning: Steep Requirements!   January 15, 2007

Even though you own a fairly recent computer, if you don't have 64bit processing and at least 2.5 gig of memory in your computer, Premiere cannot be used to its greatest extent. Also be sure to have plenty of hard disk space available for virtual ram (100 gig or more)-If you don't, Premiere will crash.

I used to have numerous problems with Adobe programs but after upgrading hardware, it seems to me that their programs have very steep requirements. What do you expect from HD?

Don't read the box requirements. If you are serious about video editing, you need to invest in a better machine that can handle Premiere Pro 2.0 otherwise, just stick with ulead.

5 out of 5 stars Adobe Premiere Pro   January 11, 2007

There are a few minor changes that I'm not completely sure about that were applied to the system that have taken some time to adjust to, but it is still a terrific program that is powerful and able to do everything I need it to be able to do.

5 out of 5 stars I don't get the bad reviews, unless....   January 6, 2007

I don't get the bad reviews, unless these users are(no offense):
1. working for the competition
2. have hardware shortcomings
3. are not using the program correctly.

I used it right out of the box and was able to capture from my sony hdr-hc3 hd cam, even though it is not listed as compatible. I created a 5 minute flick in no time, had very good real time viewing of the unrendered product, and rendered it in about 20-30 minutes. I watched it on an 8' wide hd projection and it was perfect. All of the video correction I did was really an improvement to my cloudy day footage. This has been the easiest install, first-time use, hardware compatibility experience I have ever had.
Check the adobe Premiere user forumn and all of your questions will be answered. I posted today and got a response and an answer in about 5 minutes. I also have After Effects, Photoshop, and pagemaker and have been happy with all for years dating back to 1990.
I upgraded from Premiere 6.5, which I haven't used for years. The improvements are plentiful and very satisfying.
If you can swing it, spring for the productivity bundle. The programs really work well together.
