Dazzle -- Junk August 4, 2006 0 out of 5 found this review helpful
Junk - I bought it to convert old tapes -- couldn't get it to finalize the DCD properly -- got it to work once out of 10 tries (& hours later) -- then took it back. The support for Dazzle is almost non-existent -- website isn't clear, & when I did an email -- the automated reply was to go to the website, status of the support issue was closed. Junk.
Very pleased July 26, 2006 4 out of 5 found this review helpful
Very pleased with the Dazzler and included software. It installed easily and very intuitive to use. After a few minutes, I was converting old home movies from VHS tape to DVD and adding voiceover annotation. Over all, excellent value!
Dazzle works quickly and intuitively - editting and direct copies VHS to DVD July 5, 2006 23 out of 23 found this review helpful
I bought this to capture high school basketball games from old VHS tapes, edit them on my PC, then create multiple DVDs of the result. It worked very quickly and easily. The conversion from VHS to PC was a piece of cake: plug and play. The "capture" process presented frames for fine editting done just by sliding frame brackets. Didn't play much with titles, captions etc, but I will soon. Then created multiple DVD copies of the final editted "movie" I created - just kept feeding in blank DVDs and pressing "go". Also copied VHS tapes directly to my PC DVD-writer and that was fast and simple as well. I am delighted with the simplicity. Of course separately I did have to buy a DVD burner for my Dell laptop, cuz I didn't have one before. But now I am all set to move all my home movies from VHS and video camera, for editing on my PC, to write to DVD.
Response to Critics June 9, 2006 56 out of 66 found this review helpful
This is a response to critics. I carefully read the reviews of Pinnacle Studio 10, which this package comes with, and negative comments on Pinnalce support, on the various venues on Amazon.com. So I almost didn't buy this. But I'm glad I took the chance. To be sure, I haven't yet actually got to the point of burning the DVD, only capturing. But the installation and the capturing (from VHS) and editing I've done so far have been perfectly smooth and incredibly easy. And Pinnalce support - live chat -- was prompt. It turns out that the problem I had wasn't with the software or PC at all, but with my VCR (the right stereo channel did not output). I don't know the specs of the Gateway I'm using except that it has 1 MB of ram, which I suspect is really what one needs. Video capturing programs take a lot of a PC's resources like gaming programs do. Overall, I find the software very easy to learn and use. I get the sense that most of the people who write reviews are the disgruntled, not the pleased. In fact, I'm writing this because, despite the critics, I'm impressed with just how easy it is to piece together and edit (create menus) from different video sources. If I have a problem with burning, I'll write again.
Can't Use It, Unfortunately May 22, 2006 6 out of 10 found this review helpful
I captured 40 minutes of a one-hour video before the program crashed. It has never worked again since. The software that comes with the device, which appears to be the only software the device will work with, freezes and crashes every time. It's extremely unfortunate because it seemed to do an excellent job for those first 40 minutes. I would still love to use the device if it was compatible with, for example, Windows Movie Maker, but no such luck.
The device is so new that there currently isn't any information in their knowledgebase.
This product would easily earn a much better review if the hardware could be reviewed independently from the software. Sadly, it's going in the return bin...
UPDATE: I contacted Pinnacle support via their online web form. It tooks 5 days to get a response, rather than the 24-48 hours they state on their page. The tech ultimately just pointed me back to their web page, even though I clearly stated that I had already tried everything on the support page. I sincerely hope this is a conspiracy against me and is not typical of there product and/or support. I'm glad to see others are having more success than me.
