Decent potential, poor performance - A non-technical review December 20, 2007 5 out of 5 found this review helpful
I bought this product to convert years of analog tapes onto DVDs. It took a while to install but it was fine. My version worked well and didn't crash on Windows XP SP2. I went through the tutorial and checked out some cool options for my films, but ran into the following problems:
1) Chapters, Menus, or "Bookmarks" if you want to call them, are extremely difficult to use. It auto-detects scenes for you at seemingly random intervals, and it is very difficult to change. I had to use the help often my first time, which was hard to follow. The help made everything seem simple, but when I went to various toolbars to find these options, they either didn't work or were nonexistent. Creating menus is extremely difficult to do.
2) The capture quality is awful. First, I tried to load onto my hard drive and then onto a DVD. After about an hour and a half of writing frames and burning the disc, everything stopped. Unfortunately it does not give you the status of the actual burn, so I was unsure if it was still working or not. After waiting another 20 minutes and not seeing my CD light go on, I quit and decided to burn directly to the DVD. When I did so, it was easy to use on my computer. However, when playing on my standard DVD player, you could notice the poor quality even on the "best" setting they give you, because all the lines in the video were rough and the image would shake every second or two.
I do not recommend this product because of the poor performance. It seemed like something easy and cool to use, but the end result was terrible. Unfortunately I can't get my money back now. Please don't make the same mistake.
Does this replace a DVR drive on my PC? December 15, 2007 0 out of 4 found this review helpful
Do I need to have a DVD burner (DVR) on my PC or does this burn DVD's? I'm totally confused. What do I need to make this work?
thanks!
Don't Waste Your Money on this Item November 12, 2007 3 out of 4 found this review helpful
Everything loaded fine. Once I opened the program, it told me that updates were available so I downloaded version 10.7 and the patch (for Internet Explorer 7 users). First installed the patch, then installed update as per instructions. My primary interest was to convert VHS home movies to files and DVD's. It captured the videos OK and I was able to edit the various scenes, but the program hung up every time I tried to make a movie (either to file to DVD). Also the Direct to DVD function hung up too. I spent a week trying to get this thing to work, but in the end it was all in vain. I did check my system and had the required hardware. Unless you're a gambler, don't waste your money on this product. Go with something else that works.
Great product! October 16, 2007 6 out of 6 found this review helpful
Both the hardware and software work as advertised! The audio is connected via the USB and thus, no "line in" sound card connection is required. (None of my laptops have a line-in connection). The latest hardware driver was found easily on the internet by the Windows installer. The software installs easily and is intuitive and easy to learn. Everything worked great right out of the box! I am totally confused by the poor rating and glad that I ignored them! I have two other competing video capture products, and the Dazzle combination hardware/software is by far the best that I have used! Highly recommend! (PS- I am NOT an employee of Pinnacle and have no agenda other than to give an honest and fair appraisal of this product!)

I wasted an entire afternoon trying to get this POS to work on a 3mhz 2GB RAM machine running Windows Media Edition. It took two attempts at loading, crashed on opening, hung up on recording, wouldn't unload, the documentation (including the online stuff) is no help. The specs are misleading because you have to spend another $30 to download a add-on to be able to work with DVDs. A couple of years ago I tried another DAZZLE product that was as lame as this one. Never again. Stay away from this turkey.
