1 out of 5 stars Not Compatible With Vista   September 28, 2007
The reviews of this product are of little value unless the reviewer shares info about his computer's operating system. I have Vista. Versions 10 and 11 of the Ulead product share something in common: neither is reliable when you have Vista installed as your operating system. Forget what their advertisements say...I'm good with computers, and trust me, this product, and everything I've tried (except for Adobe's product) crashes frequently (80% of the time in my case). To make matters worse, Ulead's web-site is awful -- and often, as this morning -- you cant even get into the site....Save your money.

4 out of 5 stars Closed Captioning works!   April 19, 2007

I have tried Sonic, Nero and Roxio products in the past with limited success since I need closed captioning to work (hard of hearing/deaf). I use a set-top DVD recorder with DVD-RAM and edit on my PC. Every program before has deleted the closed captioning and usually won't work with DVD-RAM so I had to first convert the DVD-RAM using Panasonic software.

Videostudio not only imports the DVD-RAM file directly, it also keeps the captioning intact. I find it very intuitive to use but I am more "computer literate" than average. I didn't need the manual at all.

Nero might be quicker to burn copies but it was miserable to create the DVD compared to this. Sonic MyDVD worked directly with the Panasonic software but if I edited the file at all it took forever and often failed. Videostudio seems to work as one package so I don't need MyDVD and Panasonic software anymore. It's a good thing because Panasonic doesn't support Vista and I just upgraded so I NEED something that works. This does.

4 out of 5 stars A good program for the price but not perfect   March 20, 2007

I tried VideoStudio 10 Plus(VS10+) as a free download demo as I had with 6 other such programs. Power Director 5(PD5)and VS10 and VS10+ were pretty close feature for feature and I did prefer PD5 over VS10+ in a few of the categories but decided on Video Studio 10(VS10) because Power Director would lock up or crash very frequently but at different points in the program. VS10 & VS10+ do give error messages and they do lock up from time to time but all work has been saved by the program up to that point so I consider such things as only a minor nuisance.

VS10 is VS10+ but without the HD & Dolby surround sound capability along with 7 insted of 2 video editing lines. VS10 was $30 less than the +version and I have no need at this time for the extra few features on the +version.

I have worked with Windows PhotoStory 3(PS3) and Windows Movie Maker(WMM) prior to buying VS10 finding them deficient in only a few places compared to VS10. They were both much easier, almost intuitive, to use compared to VS10. I preferred PhotoStory 3 over VS10 & all the other video editing programs that allowed photo incorporation because it was the easiest & most flexible to use. PS3 biggest downfall was that it could not import a video file which PD5 & VS10 could do. Windows Movie Maker had a more flexible title capability than VS10 but lacked the ability to totally control the sound. What made me choose VS10 was that VS10 had far more many features than WMM and WPS3 and was more stable than PD5. I discovered that I could overcome the limitations of VS10 by importing files made with PS3 and WMM into VS10 and then modifying those files using VS10. One nice feature of VS10 is the ability to trim music files that have been imported. With PS3 and WMM, if I wanted to trim the music file and/or modify the sound level, I would have to use the program Audacity before importing the music file.

The creation of a movie file requires 'rendering' of the project before you can burn it to DVD which takes a little over 1 minute for each minute of project length. Creating menus & submenus for the DVD is really the most confusing part of this program because of the poor manual writing here.

Once you get the hang of things, importing files, be they video, photo or audio, to create a project for editing and then storing it as a project file and creating a movie file are relatively easy. The manual could be better written and explained for the video editing novice and some things about the program are undocumented. All-in-all for the price, VS10 is a good deal.

1 out of 5 stars Can't convert a file!   March 7, 2007

Upgraded from version 8, which wasn't bad. But now I can't burn a DVD. During file conversion an error message pops up saying I "got problem" converting file. They got that right!. Briefly, the on-line FAQ says to creat a DVD-compliant file first, tell the burner program not to convert compliant files, then burn. No joy. Tried the procedure with all possible permutations. Still No Joy. Emailed tech support, and have yet to hear back. So I uninstalled, and went back to version 8. Works fine. DON'T UPGRADE TO OR BUY THIS VERSION!!

1 out of 5 stars Ulead Studio 10 Sucks   February 26, 2007

I have had this bug laden, non performing piece of crap for 5 months. It has yet to produce anything. If you are thinking about purchasing this software find anything else. Even the windows supplied movie maker is better than this crap.

To add insult to non performing software tech support is absolutely non-exsistant. I mean the FAQ is only one page long, you can not even look up a knowledge base answer. Mainly cause how can you build a knowledge base when no one can get it to work!

Runs for a few seconds than locks up, brand new computer running all the newest stuff and it still won't do a simple clip cut!

Run away save yourself from this terrible software.
