Impossible To Know February 17, 2008 In spite of the previous review, I was going to try this product (available as trial-version download from the maker) as 90% of the time I need something in between Windows Movie Maker and Premier.
The installer program brings up a msg-window noting that it is going to install the Win Media 9 run-times (library of routines used by Win Media). As I have Win Media 11, the installer should have noted that a more current version was available - which is supposed to be back-compatible.
On the other hand, given the known instability of MS software, I can see that a developer would make the choice to use known-working run-times for their program.
However, I cancelled the install, as there is some chance that the installer program would either overwrite the existing run-times, or would change registry entries to point to the out-dated run-times as the Win Media default.
Most likely, the old run-times would simply be installed, and used by this program without affecting the current run-times: But I do not want to spend the next two days finding out that I was wrong about that.
Yes. I do know about the XPP 'system restore' utility. Sadly this utility often causes problems with some Adobe Software activation on systems with RAIDs - several times after rolling back, some of my Adobe programs would not work without reactivation & Adobe says this is a known issue.
Of course, the last time this happened, when I tried to reactivate Adobe was in the process of moving their support center and I was unable to reactivate until the next day, and as I was doing something at the last minute ...
So. I am, without having used this program, giving it ONE star for a potentially dangerous and uninformative setup program.
This software is terrible! February 2, 2008 This software has been a complete nightmare to use. I would not recommend this software to anyone. It has a tendency to distort/blur pictures - both bitmap & jpeg. I have jpegs that are sharp & clear, but look absolutely terrible once this 'editor' does it's 'magic'. Whenever I'd add a crisp, clear picture as part of a longer project, the end result would be blurry...wavy. The same with text. Adding an intro 'cue card' into the project resulted in text that appeared as if termites had been at it. (Again, the actual bitmap of that same text was perfectly sharp & clear.) I've tried saving as mpegs, avi's, wmv's ...all with bad results. (And yes, I've tried different resolutions as well.) At one point it refused to play the audio of a particular track. The audio would play if I singled-out that clip, but when I embedded that same clip into a longer project - no sound. It was hit/miss with this application. Way too frustrating. If someone offers you a free copy, smack them! It gets one star because 'minus stars' is not an option on this site.
