Color cast with Heuy Pro March 15, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
When I set up my monitor with the Heuy Pro, it produced a magenta color cast to the screen. I found a help page on the Pantone site that admits this is a fault in some units. They assure me that they will send me another unit after I fill out an on-line form. Here's hoping!
Terrible, terrible, terrible March 15, 2008 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
I had the same problem as everybody else who had a problem, the whole monitor turned pink. I should have listened but didn't. Returning was easy with Amazon and free so no real harm done, just a waste of time.
It turned my screen pink. Not good color rendition on first try. March 15, 2008 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
I installed. Easy installation. I calibrated the device and checked the color against a picture with and without control. Without looked better. The screen had a pink background. I will try on another LCD to see if it is different. Still undecided.
Nervous about buying this, but it works great March 13, 2008 3 out of 5 found this review helpful
My major concern was all of the posts about difficulties with notebook monitors and color casts. Of course notebook monitors (I've got a new MacBook) are designed for low power and have limited viewing angles, so viewing position is critical.
Anyway I used the Huey Pro, only takes a few minutes, and calibrated the monitor. The change was breathtaking. Flesh tones, which were bluish, became accurate. But it does only look correct when viewed straight on or with a small downward angle, which actually improves the brightness and contrast. If I look at the display from a low angle it turns magenta -- exactly what some other people have complained about. But from a higher angle it looks fine.
I then used the Huey Pro to calibrate a pair of monitors on my system at work. I don't do photography there, but it was annoying that colors changed moving across the border between monitors. The work system is Windows XP, and the monitors are not the same model. The Huey Pro calibrated them both and there is a good match across the border.
I still have my main iMac system (with a second monitor) to calibrate. But I expect no problems after these successes.
Only downside I've seen is the software wants to hang around after calibration. You have to play around with the innards of your system to get it to go away. Since it creates standard icm profiles there is no reason to have the software designed so that it can't be easily turned off.
Affordable product to get good results, great attention to details March 9, 2008 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
I've read the other reviews and I was a little worried at first: some of them are really nasty! Anyway I decided to give it a try and I must say I am happy with it. At first the corrected colors will seem a little too cold (but, in my case, never pink or reddish as I've read in other reviews..) it's because people are often used to wrong default settings of the monitor manufacturers; after a couple of hours you won't be able to live with an uncorrected monitor.
I've calibrated my VISTA notebook monitor and an external lcd connected to it and colors really match almost perfectly. The software is well designed, not intrusive and easy to use; it produces a .icc color profile based on the test and manages to apply it correctly, even considering the room illumination changes. Users can easily change the frequence of the room light monitoring or even set it off. You can also switch between the corrected profile and the previous settings every time you want just accessing the options panel via the tray icon. In the packaging is included a cute docking base for the Huey Pro and an usb cable extension. Nice attention for the details.
What can I say, I'm happy with this; there will probably be more expensieve professional solutions to achieve even more accurate results, but I think that this is a good product for graphics freelancers like me. definetely worth the money.
