Go with Another Security Software Provider July 10, 2007 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
The McAfee product conflicts with other anti-virus/security programs that you may have or downloaded over the past and prevents it from working properly. I could never get McAfee to work properly so it was a complete waste of money. Customer service was also not very helpful.
With ISP's and portals providing many AV, spyware and intrusion prevention software for free these days, buying programs like McAfee don't make much sense anymore.
Easy to set up July 9, 2007 0 out of 2 found this review helpful
Extremely pleased with the ease of set up and compatibility with wireless network at work, home and on the road. A little time and effort in being certain of your actions during set-up reaps big rewards when using. I bought three new computers, a laptop and two desktops that this softwarwe was installed on. There have been no glitches or complaints in the first 30 days of use including a 3000 mile trip with the laptop accessing many different wirreless connections. I highly recommend the McAfee Internet Suite for PC protection.
Security Suite July 8, 2007 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I had some difficulty installing the product which was a newer version of the previous year's product. Last year's worked perfectly, while this version failed to load up the virus protection protection. No explanation, just didn't load...after uninstalling and attempting to install twice, I had to call tech support and uninstall some other "spyware" programs that McAfee claimed was causing problems. The program then loaded but absolutely KILLED the high speed internet from operating properly. Another call to tech support and we had to install some sort of a "patch" that worked with AOL to make the program operate properly with AOL...works fine now!
Buyer beware July 2, 2007 2 out of 3 found this review helpful
Buyer beware.
I installed Internet Security yesterday and found that emails from eFax are automatically being deleted from Outlook and I can't find them any more. I am an efax customer and these are important emails. So I tried contacting customer service for help. McAfee's customer service is really really bad. Unless you want to pay $2.95/min, the only way to get help is via IM. And IM hold times are north of 15 minutes. The one time I did connect with customer service on IM, the connection disappeared after the initial "hello how can I help you".
So what am I going to do? I'm going to get a security package from someone else first thing tomorrow, uninstall McAfee and live with the fact that some of my email has been deleted. Of course this is the last McAfee product I'll ever buy.
Back to using the good ol' McAfee! July 1, 2007 0 out of 2 found this review helpful
I am a no-nonsense consumer, and I don't work for Norton, McAfee, or any of the virus-scanner companies, so here are some unbiased facts about the software.
Overall, I am very please with the software. I tried out the trial version on my slowest computer, and I liked it, so I bought the full, 3-user, version, from [...].
Although I did not have any problems downloading and installing the trial version on the Windows 2000 computers, I had to download and install MSXML versions 3, then 4, from the microsoft website to get the download to sucessfully complete and start the installation process on the Windows XP computers.
Once installed on the computers, when I opened up the SecurityCenter, the software's control panel, on each of the computers to customize the installations, I was pleased to find that the default settings were already thoughtfully set by McAfee. The only exception was with the parental control, which was enabled initially. However, it was easy to turn off.
The SecurityCenter was a bit on the slow-side to configure, however, it was not bothersome, since configuring the software was only one of those rare-occasion, typically-done-only-on-install-type, computer tasks. On each of the computers, the SecurityCenter was only slow by itself and did not seem to effect the performance of the rest of the system.
The software package that I downloaded came with a system maintenance feature, called QuickClean. I initially used it skeptically, as with any of the automatic cleaning software I had used in the past, but the QuickClean actually worked. It went through the Windows registry and user-specified folders rather comprehensively. I had noticible performance improvements on most of the computers after running the QuickClean feature. One of the computers, a laptop, had always run hot, since I bought it. It originally came with N****n. I got rid of N****n, when I could not work with the laptop anymore because of it locking up due to heat-issues. After installing McAfee, and running QuickClean, I did not know exactly what the software did, but not only did the laptop run faster, its cooling fans actually rested every now and then because it was no longer running super hot.
There are other details, which I found very satisfying with the software, but mentioning them might end up turning this "brief" customer review into a high-school report. :-)
