1 out of 5 stars Even worse than last year...   December 29, 2007

The product is lacking ad blocking, a major disadvantage. The user interface is totally confusing. The product is even less configurable than it was last year, if that is even possible. The installation on a clean system went well; unfortunately, the first liveupdate failed, and I was required to use a manual procedure to correct the issue, after spending time at the symantec tech support web site. This product and customer service combination do not deserve an award or editors choice rating --- one wonders what PC magazine is really doing here. What an embarrassment...

4 out of 5 stars Good overall Internet Security suite   December 29, 2007

I really like this system much better than I did my McAfee system. It does not slow my computer system down NEARLY as much as McAfee 2006 and 2007 did. There are several tools that would have been nice to include in the system that are not there (like a registry cleaner and tools for managing start-up processes) - I understand that there is a Norton system that will do those things, but the reviews that I saw for that was terrible and scared me away from buying it.

It does what it claims to do well (as far as I can tell ;-) ). No viruses that I can detect so far anyway. It also works well as a background task... does not need me to tell it what to do all the time.

1 out of 5 stars Norton's "help" is the worst!   December 28, 2007

Immediately after installing Norton's Internet Security, I started having trouble with my internet. When I tried to access certain websites, my internet browser would close. I tried to use their "help" feature which supposedly allows you to talk to their support staff. I waited over an hour in the chat room...they kept promising to be with me "shortly."

NIS 2008 continues to be a sound user-friendly and reliable product. It includes Anti-spam but its a double mystery why that is neither mentioned on the box, nor in the User Guide. Even on the CD menu it only appears as an Add-On with no description of what is included

4 out of 5 stars norton security   December 26, 2007

Choosing a product for the security of your computer is very important, stopping virus and identity theft. Sony preinstalls norton in their laptops, and i tried installing McAfee. McAfee slowed my laptop down to a crawl, and start up time was considerly longer. Even after add/remove process, fragments of McAfee was still left on computer, to get it all out, I had to take computer back to original specs installation from sony. This anti-virus from McAfee internet security 2008 is a very poor chose for sony product, it,s best to stay with norton. I found that installing the upadted version is best done when trail version has expired by no more than 2 days, this does not greatly affect security due to the fact that Vista, has microsoft firewall and spyware biult into system, so the situation of installing new on top of old has been taken care of, because this action greatly affects cpu speed. So over all i am greatly pleased with the new addition of Norton 2008 Security over previous version. Best way to see whats compatiable with the system is to see what security was installed in the system when first purchased and stick with that system. Happy shopping.
