Trend Micro July 16, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Removed Norton 360 because it cost $79.00 to replace. Installed Trend Micro for $39.00. Called support and got a small problem fixed in 3 min. The system found 4 Trogan virus right away that Norton missed. Then it told me to go to Micrsoft and download a patch for Windows XP. I am very happy so far and have not noticed any slowness associated with Trend Micro. Except now that my system is actually being checked I expect some slowness at times.
Good product July 12, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
We received the product in a timely manner. Have a network, had a bit of trouble being able to print to network after installing. But fixed by installing the printer on each computer. Have not crashed as some reviews have stated.
Not as good as past years June 24, 2008 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
PRO * Comprehensive protection - consistently updated and very complete virus database * Unbeatable price for three licenses * Supports automated scans, exclusions, interfaces with the XP SP2 and Vista security centers
CONS * Slow. Prior to the ~2007 version, this was the fastest checker on the market. Recent versions have added considerable overhead to network and file access. * Nagware. The software now pesters you twice weekly on each installed machine for you to upgrade to the pro version. There is no option for disabling this.
OVERALL In past years, I recommended this package to everyone. With the slowdown and the nagware addition, I can no longer do this. An unsuppressable popup ad in a paid product is inexcusable.
SLOW June 24, 2008 Based on Consumer Reports' recommendation, I switched from Norton to Trend Micro. On the plus side, Trend Micro seems to be doing a good job of keeping my system free of spyware and viruses. The interface is easy to use and I like the reporting functions and the scans are pretty quick and don't interfere with anything else I'm doing.
I am running Windows XP Media Center Edition on a high-end Dell with good memory, hard-drive space, and processing speed. But Trend Micro is excruciatingly slow. When I first start my system for the day, it takes 20-40 minutes for Trend Micro to allow access to the internet. At that point, I get a daily notice that it cannot turn on the Firewall, so I end up manually starting the Windows firewall each day. I can't leave the Windows Firewall turned on because Trend Micro automatically disables it upon startup. Also, frequently the updates fail to install and it has to rollback to a previous version. It is all easy to operate and most of the time does the rollback automatically but it's unsettling. I've tried to stick it out for these 6 months but at this point, I have to abandon it for another anti-virus program.
works good, except with XP SP3 June 7, 2008 it works great until you install windows XP SP3. if you are going to install SP3, go to trend micro's website to read how to get the newest version that is compatible with SP3. if you install SP3 while a non-current version of trend micro is installed. trend micro may stop working completely. it took me a while to get it all figured out. i didn't do things in the right order and had to download a program that completely uninstalled the old version. then i did a clean install with of the new version i got from trend micro's website.
