1 out of 5 stars Buyer Beware slows your computer bigtime   November 22, 2007
Purchased this software and after installing on Windows XP with SP2, my computer after several minutes slowed down and stopped when using internet explorer. It would also slow to a crawl when using other software like Excel and Word. Asked for help with Micro Trend, and no response. After one week, I complained, and one person responded "he is working on problem" After another week complained, a different person responded saying he is working on problem. After a 3rd and finally a 4th different person responded (now 1 month) he said he solved my problem but had 2 pages of programming instructions to fix the issue! Googled Trendmicro (you can too) and found this same problem existed 2 years ago! Do not buy this software! I then uninstalled the software and everything worked fine, back to normal. Carl

4 out of 5 stars Great product, tricky salesmanship   November 21, 2007

I've used Trend for several years. The product itself is excellent, I trust it completely. They've been bugging me about renewing my subscription for about a month, although it doesn't expire for another 18 days from today. I finally went online today and renewed. I was very upset to find that "auto-renew on my credit card" was NOT an option! They'll automatically renew my subscription every year til kingdom come, without my consent! The fine print told me I could "opt out of auto-renew" by clicking on a tiny difficult to find link on another page, and jumping thru some hoops. I did that, but SHOULD NOT HAVE TO DO THAT! The auto-renew should CERTAINLY be optional. I emailed Trend, and let them know there are a lot of other options out there for PC protection, including some free ones. Next year, I'll buy the boxed Trend from Amazon or Best Buy, I won't be ordering online again!

1 out of 5 stars Wow, what a disappointing, frustrating product! (NOT recommended)   November 20, 2007

Oh boy, this product gives software a bad name!!

In the cycle of life all things ebb and flow. I switched from Norton's product a few years ago to Trend and was relatively happy. But now, oh have the times changed!! To maintain my sanity, I'l be throwing away my Trend Micro Internet Security 2008.

Let me explain:

Firstly, I agree with another reviewer that purchasing or renewing this product through Digital River is a nightmare. Don't purchase this software, but if you do, good luck and stick with the fine folks at Amazon.

More importantly, like other reviewers (including PC Magazine), I had all kinds of trouble installing this product. To this day after many, many, many, many attempts at working with Trend Micro "support" the product still crashes and parts don't work.

What doesn't work? I've had all kinds of trouble with the 'Prevent Unauthorized Changes' feature. When I click the button to show me what changes were found, Trend Micro would simply crash. I completely uninstalled and then reinstalled the software and now the program simply freezes when I click this button. Well, I guess I've made progress:)

I just realized that that the software hasn't been updating for over a week. When I try to update manually, it tells me to check my connection. Of course, I have an internet connection and went through all their recommendations in their knowledge base, but the product won't update. I'm sure there is a fix for this, but that leads me to the next and most important reason why you should avoid this product if you enjoy your sanity...

What has been the most disappointing aspect of this software has been Trend's horrible, bad, unpleasant, frustrating, etc. customer support.

Spent over an hour on the phone with someone who was the typical "please hold" while he read from a troubleshooting script. Eventually, he just told me to completely reinstall the software. Of course my problems haven't gone away. Today I tried to call support again and a helpful recording told me to call back at another time because they were too busy.

Email support was absolutely useless as it would take a day or two to get a response only to be sent a canned reply that was absolutely no help. It was as if they didn't even read my detailed comments. After going back and forth with them for several weeks I was at wit's end.

Never have been able to reach chat support. The wait is so long I eventually give up.

The bottom line: Isn't software supposed to enhance our lives or computing experience in some way? Well friends, Trend Micro Internet Security 2008 has utterly and completely failed to achieve this objective for me.

2 out of 5 stars Trend Micro support is POOR   November 17, 2007

Trend Micro's support is about the most ineffective and inefficient I have ever encountered. Just learning the product is enough, but I spent over 8 hours, over the course of 2 days just trying to either establish a 'chat' session, or a phone session. The problem was clear and I was amazed, once I established a phone conversation, how many times I had to have them describe the problem to ensure they understood it. Very frustrating.
In addition Internet Security 2008 isn't even a selection when accessing their Solution ID data base.

1 out of 5 stars A disaster......   November 9, 2007

I used to ignore reviews that said the installation went bad. We have three newer computers in our office with Windows XP and none can run this software consistently. Trend Micro constantly freezes or quits. The average wait time for the chat tech support was three hours and the wait time for phone support was, well, I don't know - they would just hang up after a while on hold. I've uninstalled and reinstalled the program 7 times now, along with trying several other suggestions. We used to have Norton and we are going to switch back again.

One other note on networking: we had to set the Trend Micro firewall protection to "low" to even let the computers communicate with each other. Norton has much more customizable network settings.
