Better than expected October 21, 2008 This was a great buy. Even got free upgrade to the latest version. Love the product. Love Amazon's great service.
VMware Fusion Whole Lot Better Than...Crossover!! October 18, 2008 Had previously purchase "Crossover" software....DON'T waste your money!! However, VMware Fusion works just as it is advertised. Pretty simple to install. Only one recommendation...instead of 2 MB increments for the partition you should do at least 10 MB from the start.
Fusion with Windows XP on an iMac October 15, 2008 EMC has done it again, great software, easy to use, combined with Windows XP on my iMac works great with leopard.
Wonderful product October 15, 2008 VMware Fusion is one of the few software products that I can honestly say, it does just about everything I ask of it. I tested this product on a first generation 13" white Macbook with 2GB of RAM and a 200GB hard drive. I am running OS X Leopard. I tried several guest operating systems: windows XP, Ubuntu hardy heron, and OpenSuse 11. All of them ran without much effort. With the linux operating systems, VMware Tools is not perfect. In fact, for both Ubuntu and OpenSuse, I had to download Open Vmware tools to get some of the advanced features to work such as drop n drag file transfer between the host and guest operating system. Some hardware devices simply do not yet work in linux such as iSight camera. Despite these minor shortcomings, these linux distros ran pretty smoothly. Vmware fusion really shines with Windows XP. The 'unity' feature is way cool. The best part is that everything ran at a reasonable speed with almost no processor lag time. One bug that I noticed was the VMware Tools mouse driver in windows is a bit choppy, especially when playing games. It simply makes mouse driven games unplayable. then again, I do not get VMware Fusion to play games anyway, so it really is not a big deal. The only complaint I had was these several minor bugs, but when considering the complexity involved in machine emulation, I would say that VMware has delivered us a quality product. Definitely, I would highly recommend this product to other mac users wanting to operate other operating systems on their macs without the hassles of using Boot Camp.
Excellent product October 14, 2008 I am amazed at how seamless this product makes everything work together. My first virtual machine is running XP, and have no issues whatsoever. When I installed Fusion, the first thing it did was go out an upgrade to 2.0. Since I had no prior experience with the product, I figured what the heck. It went so well, and works so well, that I told others here at work that were hesitant to upgrade to go ahead. They too have nothing but good things to say. I am not a power user of XP (only using Quicken and a few other small programs), so I have not observed any issues related to CPU/Disk IO/Memory usage.
