For the Money... April 5, 2008 5 out of 6 found this review helpful
For the money this a truly a "Premier" program. I've never tried programs like Rosetta Stone because of their prices, but for German Software under $50, this is a very impressive and thorough program.
If you are trying to learn to speak German than this is the program for you. If you are trying to learn read German, say for graduate comps., then you'll find it less helpful. But it does establish the foundation for German that you'll need when you go to learn the German Jargon of your field.
Cheaper Than Rosetta Stone!! March 5, 2008 7 out of 8 found this review helpful
I've gotta say that I tried so many language learning programs out there (even taken a formal class), and Berlitz Premier has to be the best. With the various ways to study the language (listening, reading, watching video clips), this edition has it all for you. My personal favorite are the CD's for on-the-go and the video clips (it's like watching German TV, I guess).
I had heard many things about the Rosetta Stone language courses, but honestly feel that paying nearly $500 for 3 levels of course is just bulls--t! Even just 1 level at $200 a pop is rape! I looked carefully at the description and can't find any differences except for the people saying it's the best they used. I'm not risking that much money to find out!
Berlitz interactive lessons allow for reading, the flash-cards allow for easy recognition and spelling, and the videos and CD's allow for natural language learning, so you hear how people actually talk and not some kraut talking down to non-German speakers.
Overall, this program rocks! Can't go wrong with this one. And if you do, you don't have to give yourself a DDT for spending so much money.

I have thoroughly enjoyed this product. I would recommend it for anyone wanting to learn a new language. Wish I had more time each day to use it.
