4 out of 5 stars Better, but still needs more   July 26, 2008
I upgraded to the 2007 edition of AutoRoute to see maps in countries not included in an earlier version of the software that I had. Specifically, I was interested in maps of Hungary and Greece. Though these countries are now included, the detail is largely limited to Budapest and Athens, with not much in the rest of the country. That was a disappointment.

About the software itself, I am a real fan. I have AutoRoute and also the US version (Microsoft Streets and Trips) and I use both to create small maps of cities to download to my PocketPC. When I travel, I have all my maps with me with all the important locations marked with pushpins. I wouldn't travel without them!

5 out of 5 stars Great value...works well.   July 16, 2008
We just finished a two-week visit to Europe that included over 3300 km of driving in a rental car. I don't think we would have gotten out of Amsterdam without AutoRoute Europe. All told, we traveled from Amsterdam to Dusseldorf, Cologne, Strasbourg, Geneva, Burgundy, Saarlouis, Luxembourg, Trier, (then back to Dusseldorf and the Rhine valley to Rudesheim am Rhine, and back to Amsterdam to fly out).

The maps were 100% correct and provided plenty of detail to work. Connection to, and operation of my GlobalSat USB GPS pod was easy and flawless.

The software was easy to learn. (I didn't break the shrinkwrap until the night we arrived, and was able to navigate the next morning). No problems working with XP Pro on my Dell X1 laptop.

There were hotels and sights that I wouldn't have been able to find without it. In addition, it was indispensible in the narrow and convoluted roads of some of the old city centrums. Highly recommended.

4 out of 5 stars Did its job   July 13, 2008
With GPS it got me around some fairly remote areas in France (Midi- Pyrenees). Haven't used it elsewhere. Glad I bought it.

3 out of 5 stars Great program but missing critical information   July 3, 2008

Like the marvelous Streets and Trips program for the United States, this program has seeds of greatness. However, it is diminished by a failure to clearly and adequately disclose data gaps. When in Ireland I learned for the first time that the program does not have Republic of Ireland address search/location capability. This is a serious deficiency that forced rental of a vehicle GPS. Such gaps should be clearly disclosed prior to purchase. It was great in England and otherwise it is a useful program and easy to use.

3 out of 5 stars Buggy; hard to navigate   May 7, 2008
You can't hide all places - that is a minor annoyance. The real problem is that it creates driving directions that are impossible to follow. "Local road, name changes to local road for 184 yards," for example.
