5 out of 5 stars The Best So Far.   June 27, 2005

This is the best, most user friendly writing software I've used so far. Once you read the manual and familiarize yourself with the program, you will be writing screenplays faster than ever. If you've been struggling with word programs, you need this software. It allows you to concentrate on the story, and not on fighting ill formatted programs.

4 out of 5 stars you need this program   April 22, 2005

This review is in response to A.A. Cucolo "trezku13"

If you are serious about writing scripts you need a screenwriting program. And there are only two that should be considered Movie Magic Screenwriter or Final Draft. I choose MMS because of bugs with the release of FD 7.0. Apparantly FD 7.1 has been bug-fixed and may now be the better purchase. I don't know--I'm sticking with MMS.

Now it is true you could use Word or Wordperfect to write "Cut To:" several thousand times, but why on earth would you.

Scripts need to be in a particular format, and screenwriting programs make putting the script in that format significantly easier than screwing around with Word.

A comparison might be made to cooking, sure you can make Chinese food without a wok--but why on earth would you?

Word processing programs are general purpose tools that can be re-fitted to produce scripts.

Screenwriting programs are specific purpose tools that are designed to do one thing well--produce scripts.

There is no serious screenwriter out there today that does not use one of the two programs mentioned above (Movie Magic Screenwriter or Final Draft)--even those screenwriters who prefer to do their first draft on paper subsequently move those pages to electronic format in one of these programs.

Is this worth $172 or $200 or $250? Considering that a spec script can sell for over $500,000--and the surest way to get that script rejected is to use improper script format--I'd have to say yes.

5 out of 5 stars Highly Recommended   January 1, 2005

Great for writing screenplays, teleplays or any work of fiction. Keep track of characters, move scenes around, and be able to register your work with the WGA immediately. This software came highly recommended by screenwriter friends and writing workshop instructors. The free book, The Screenwriter's Bible, is the perfect companion for this software.

4 out of 5 stars This IS the latest version!   December 6, 2004

I must apologize!
This IS the latest version of Movie Magic Sgreenwriter! The paperwork I received told me it was 4.5 and I didn't open anything else until after I heard from the manufacturer which took awhile. They told me I could get upgrades so...
Today I opened the cd wrapper and found it to be the newest version. Don't ask me why it wasn't labeled earlier?
Anyway this is the latest and I apologize for earlier comments.
Cheers, By George

5 out of 5 stars Top Screenwriting Program Avaliable   October 31, 2004

Movie Magic Screenwriter is by far the most helpful, easy to manage screenwriting program on the market. I have used other software such as Final Draft, and have found that Movie Magic is by far the best. It makes formatting your script as simple as possible, offering a wide variety of templates, such as television scripts, motion picture scripts, etc. It also helps you organize your characters and makes it easy to find certain scenes with it's variety of tools to help you manage the script. This program is definitely worth the money.
