5 out of 5 stars don't understand complaints, its great!!   November 12, 2008
I'm dictating this review with my Dragon 10 software. It's incredible stuff. I just purchased it and installed it and was up and going in 10 minutes without any problem whatsoever and I use Vista as my operating system. I simply do not understand the complaints that I have seen about any of the installation processes. I do think registration is a little bit of a pain in the neck but it's a minor issue. The training took me 10 to 15 minutes and it's pretty much 98% accurate. I will use this all the time.

4 out of 5 stars Good at Speech Recognition; Poor at Typing   November 11, 2008
I have a repetitive strain injury and haven't typed for over four months now. I've spent a significant amount of time evaluating, and using both this, and Windows speech recognition to control the computer 100% via voice. For free speech recognition, Dragon can't be beat, but unfortunately it is very poor at controlling Microsoft Windows. I find that Windows speech recognition typing mode and macros are far superior to this product, so I only use it when I need to produce a significant amount of English text. The vast majority of my time is spent controlling my e-mail, controlling a web browser, writing computer software, and controlling a command line, so if this is your primary intent don't plan on using Dragon naturally speaking. It may be possible with add-on software such as know-brainer or the Professional Edition to get by without using Windows speech recognition, but the incremental cost may run you more than your computer hardware.

5 out of 5 stars Dragon 10 Natrally Speaking   November 11, 2008

My life on the computer just got more productive and fun. Changing Talk to type makes my time on the computer less about my lack of typing skills and more about getting my work done! My 12 yr old son has a Lerning Dissability and he can use his own file to talk his assignments, reports into the computer, he says it is just like telling his friends a story now-not like writing a story for homework.

4 out of 5 stars Review for Dragon Naturally Speaking Preferred 10   November 9, 2008
I am very satisfied. This is a good product for someone like me with average typing skills and speed. The accuracy rate is not as high initially, as mentioned in the product box, but it gradually improves with time. This has definitely reduced the time that I have spent in the recent past in typing medical progress notes. I have also used Dragon for other transciption work including writing letters and case reviews in MS Word, and writing e-mails. The only problem that I have encountered is the optimal position of the microphone. I hope there are regular updates available to optimize the efficiency of the software.

1 out of 5 stars Wouldn't load   November 9, 2008

I should have listened to the other reviews. I couldn't get it to load. It kept stopping and said it needed something for the C++ (whatever that is). At that point it wants you to restart the computer. Just before it restarts, it runs an uninstall program. This removes all of what is already installed. When it restarts it does the same thing all over again. Amazon.com did let me return it. I just got this PC. It has VISTA Home Premium on it.
