2 out of 5 stars Seems like a downgrade?   April 3, 2008

I just bought this product yesterday, splurging a few dollars more to get the 2008 version because it has "updated maps".

Well so far all but one address I tried to look up can't be found. For a couple, it couldn't even find the street.

So I went out to live search, and it finds all the addresses there - and they are completely spot on. How can the free online product with an aerial view be so accurate, and the pay version be so poor???

I'm disappointed also that streets & maps doesn't have aerial views. Even if I could just download a few to the program from live search (just the ones I want to use), that would be nice.

And now I'm reading that it's a common problem for this product to deactivate itself after 30 or 60 days even if you've properly registered it and activated it. Great - can't wait for that.

The fine print says you can install this program on one desktop/main pc, and one portable device. I'm not sure if one desktop + one laptop qualifies given the wording, but it did let me install on both of my computers.

3 out of 5 stars Not better than the 2005 Version   April 3, 2008

I bought this because I was hoping for updated maps and additional features. I find that the program startup now takes 3-4 times as long as the 2005 version. It seems that Microsoft is checking in to see if you are a registered legal owner before the initialization finishes. The product otherwise seems largely the same as the 2005 version. The newest sections of my neighborhood are still not on the map, consequently, it creates a longer route. Honestly, Google Maps, Mapquest and the like have the same problems. Anyway, I feel like I was ripped off because I got almost nothing new for my money.

2 out of 5 stars Disappointed   March 25, 2008

I am somewhat disappointed in this version. I have been buying this product every year since 2003 except for 2007 when I couldn't find a copy. I don't notice very much of a difference between this versions information and the 2006, I don't see that many new roads in areas that I know have new roads (since 2006). This version has more security features, read that as only being able to load it on 2 computers, takes a LOT longer to load. Takes a long time to come up when you want to use the program. I prefer using the 2006 that I have on the companies laptop.

1 out of 5 stars Activation is a problem   March 8, 2008

I have several older versions of Streets ending in 2006, and the new activation scheme is a real killer for me. It is far easier to use Google (for free) and a Garmin (with custom poi addins). Save your money.

1 out of 5 stars I don't think so !!   March 6, 2008

I came to this site specifically to purchase MS Streets and Trips 2008. After learning that I can only use it on one computer, I have changed my mind. Like many working/traveling people, I create my routes, maps etc on a desk top at home and use them on a laptop on the road. The one computer restriction is very inconvenient for me and a deal breaker.

I am off to research "Plan B"

Thank you, everyone, for writing the very informative reviews. You have saved me a little money and a lot of hassle.
