A shame about Entourage March 2, 2008 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I'd like to use Entourage but it has one serious flaw running on Leopard, at least on my computer. Every time I try to add a calendar event it switches the month to August. That will be fine when I come to add events this August but it makes the calendar unusable the other eleven months of the year. I have Office installed on a computer running Tiger and this doesn't seem to happen. Microsoft really needs to address this. Exchange support would also be nice but that's not an option unless you buy one of the more expensive versions.
Otherwise my experience is neutral. I use Word because my school uses it but it's using Office 2003 so I run Office 2008 in compatibility mode. Having no real need to run Office 2008 and since it was a free upgrade I may just revert to Office 2004.
Do not buy slower than the Office 2004 on an Intel Mac! March 1, 2008 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
This is a waste of money. Slower than Office 2004 on an Intel Mac? Crashes and does not open ppt export from Keynote. Was a waste of $129!
interminably slow on intel powerbook & very unstable February 29, 2008 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
While PowerPoint offers some nice new features and an improved look and feel, over all the software suite is unconscionably unstable. Word consistently crashes after spell checks, powerpoint can't handle a pdf conversion, just to name a few issues.
I am eagerly awaiting the first major update and if you are considering purchases the product, I would suggest holding off.

I bought this product because my old version of Entourage had a date glitch in it and stopped working with the spring daylight savings time change in 2007. This fixed that problem and I can now send and receive emails again. But, I don't care for the Word product as much as the older version. The Toolbox is different - comes up in a box to the right of the screen rather than along the top - which every other Word version uses. All of these Office products take a long time to open when opening the application. Be forewarned: Word defaults to saving documents as a ".docx" document which NO ONE else can open unless they have a conversion application. However, you can change this default back to ".doc" which you'll need to do to sync with the rest of the world. Overall, it still works fine but I think they went overboard with too many glitzy changes that don't add to the product.
Give it a break February 28, 2008 5 out of 8 found this review helpful
I am a 100% Windows to Mac convert having gotten rid of all of my Windows machines and purchased three Macs, so it may seem odd that I am about to defend a Microsoft product. Yes this release has some bugs, what new version doesn't? Yes, some functionality changed, but it will get better with time. What you should NOT overlook is that this version works seamlessly with Windows versions, it is very performant now that it is a Universal binary and MOST OF ALL...you can now buy it for home use at a reasonable price AND install it on three machines for that price. It is not a perfect release but this will put my iWork 08 back on the shelf. It's price performance is just far superior.
