This new version of MS Office Home and Student 2007 offers some great advances over the old version. I find it easier to use and not much of a learning curve. It retains enough of the old version that you won't get lost. The price was right and I saved $20. by buying it from Amazon rather that the on line version offered my by MS. Good buy!
i'd much rather use office 2000 October 2, 2007 12 out of 17 found this review helpful
I've only worked with the 2007 version of Word, so I can't speak to all of the "upgraded" applications that come with this office suite. I didn't like it very much because transitioning from previous versions was far from intuitive. I'm sticking with StarOffice for my home computer, but will continue to use MS Office at work because I have no choice. On the job we are still on 2003, and I'm not looking forward to the day they install 2007 on my machine. I do applaud Microsoft for making a somewhat reasonably priced version of Office available, and for not restricting it to students only. I really think that is great, although it's too bad that they don't include Access for database work. Also, I saw that one reviewer says the license covers installation on up to three machines, and if that's true then I applaud Microsoft for this as well. So I believe these positive aspects warrant the two stars I've allowed in this review. If they ever decide to re-release Office 2000 Professional (they could call it "Vintage Edition" or something catchy like that) and sell it for about half the price of this package (stands to reason since it's needed so many "improvements" over these few years), I'd not only buy it, but would add few more stars to its review.
Awful Product ... October 2, 2007 11 out of 12 found this review helpful
If you are accustomed to the 2003 version, good luck figuring out the 2007 version. Once again Microsoft took something that was pretty good and made it terrible.
Difficult to Navigate October 1, 2007 5 out of 5 found this review helpful
I purchased the Microsoft Office Home & Student 2007, believing I would have a product that was as easy to use as my Microsoft Small Business 2000 software. Instead, what I got was a program that looked so foreign to my 20th century brain, that after four weeks, I am still trying to navigate and discover where all my icons are to do different things in my Word program. Maybe if I had installed MS Office 2003, things would have gone better...perhaps a smoother transition, but I am mind-boggled at how differently it all looks and operates. It took several minutes to find my thesaurus, and the spell check I stumbled across accidently. Good luck to those who are in the same boat I am in...the proverbiel boat in the proverbial sea of software, without the knowledge to navigate effectively or efficiently.
Obligatory purchase October 1, 2007 4 out of 9 found this review helpful
I see this only as an obligatory purchase and an extra expense since Microsoft has the market on this and it is a pricey item to purchase for each computer we own. The product isn't perfect, but what other alternative would there really be in order to be compatible with the rest of the world?
