4 out of 5 stars Good Upgrade for Grad Students   September 16, 2007

While I agree that the menus are a little cryptic and that the interface is awkward to navigate at first, I'm of the firm opinion that Office 2007 is actually a great improvement over Office 2003. It is oriented towards a web-savvy population, used to manipulating tabs for content. It's off-putting at first, but a little patience and you realize that the new menus are much more intuitive than were the old ones, and that the interface is much more fluid and coherent.

What really impressed me about Office 2007, however, is its incredibly fluid interface with the bibliographic manager EndNote X1. For grad students in any discipline who are using EndNote X1 for writing their dissertations, you should upgrade immediately to Office 2007. The two programs work seamlessly together. Again, like any new program, it requires some experimentation to get used to the interface, but in the end it's well worth it. So, grad students of the world, make the investment and get Office 2007. Just be prepared to have a little patience.

1 out of 5 stars Read all the reviews before you buy   September 2, 2007

Microsoft Office 2007 is a real disappointment. Outlook is very slow, they have not corrected the cursor/typing delay. Word does not react well with earlier editions of Word. There seem to be a lot of bugs to be worked out by Microsoft, if they are still interested in doing that.

Combined with the overloaded, slow Vista, it is a fatal combination. Be prepared to be discouraged.

2 out of 5 stars Frustrated   August 19, 2007

This product does not interact with an earlier version of Peachtree or Outlook, so I am unable to use spreadsheets to create documents, nor does it look at my Outlook Address Book. It is also frustrating to find some of the formatting that I was used to in the tool bar. I need to give it more time since that was a feature that had been reviewed before. Hopefully, I will get used to it in due time - but the inability to interact with Peachtree or Outlook is extremely disappointing.

2 out of 5 stars Keep Office 2003 as long as you can   August 19, 2007

Instead of getting more intuitive, the menus / ribbons are cryptic. I considered myself as a quite fast user of most features of e.g. Word 2003. Now, with Word 2007, I have to consult Help every second minute and get frustrated all the time! It is even worse if on one computer you have 2003 and on another 2007. A lot of extra stress when using 2007.
