Took longer to load than expected. Seems to require much longer time to open programs and for programs to respond once open. Not sure if that is extra security checks going on or what. I found the instructions more an advertisement of the products than a help as to adjusting views and basic understanding of functions/functionality. HELP never seems to be very helpful as is typical with MS products.

This upgrade is very integrated for TRUE Office work. I was a Beta tester for 12 months and had a chance to find the bugs within the suite. The upgrade portion was really easy (if you have valid operating system and a previous valid Office product, including Works). This is a lot easier to automate Microsoft web site data also. The price is difficult to swallow if you have an existing Office suite, but when you start using the product it is easy to see the change is worth it.

I am impressed by the features of this new version, but somewhat dismayed at the learning curve to find commands that had been instinctive. I believe that people who are using Office for the first time or are not that familiar with the earlier Office will find this version easier to learn. We old dogs will just have to adapt. I might add that the Professional version contains a lot of programs that are excellent, but I only use about half of them. A new buyer might consider a less expensive version.

I am finding that it is not so diffucult to navigate my way around the new programs of Excel, Word etc. Opening up files - it tends to be a bit sluggish. On the plus side I found Word 2007 seems to do a much better job of lining up indents. In Word 2003 our indents were sometimes off by a half space which bothered us.

You can try this for free for up to 60 days by registering with Microsoft and downloading an evaluation copy. When you're sure you want it, permanently activate it with the product key you get in your Amazon package.
The new version of Excel has two huge advantages:
1. It removes the old 256 column/65,536 row limitation. You can now have 16,384 columns and more than a million rows.
2. Excel 2007 can use all the cores/processors in your computer (or you can restrict it to use only some, so huge background calculations do not tie up your machine). On my dual core computer, Excel 2007 is **way** faster than 2003 at almost every task.
I've seen no crashes, hangs, or hiccups.
But everything else about Excel 2007 is frustrating. The new "ribbon" interface is unnecessary and awkward -- almost every operation takes more pointing and clicking than older releases. Bypassing the ribbon with the new "Quick Access Toolbar" is problematic because (bizarrely) Microsoft has deleted many distinctive command icons, leaving them with identical green circles.
Right now Excel 2003 costs more than Excel 2007. If the two plusses don't help you, you may think that 2003 is worth more.
