1 out of 5 stars Crash-o-rama   July 24, 2002

Like most of the other reviews, this is an upgrade I wish I would have avoided. I upgraded from Money99 (which was rock solid) hoping to use the increased abilities of portfolio management. I have used Money since 95 and have been completely happy until this latest upgrade. I can almost guarantee that it will crash on me a minimum of twice each session. Unfortunately, I have waited too long in giving it "the benefit of the doubt" and am pretty much stuck with it. After this version, I am seriously considering Quicken or some other non-Microsoft money manager.

DO NOT BUY THIS PRODUCT unless you are a glutton for punishment!!!

1 out of 5 stars Worst product I've ever purchased   April 24, 2002

Microsoft's Money 2002 has got to be the worst product I've purchased from them since the first edition of Windows 98.

The product has tremendous lag time when opening the subsets within the application. It crashes on almost ever user session.

My experience has been dreadful, If you buy this software you'll be making the mistake of a lifetime.

You'll have to reinstall your Operating System because it will invoke an explorer error in Windows that won't allow the O/S to boot. When I called Microsoft they said, and I quote; "Well, we've got no control over errors until our development team takes time to fix them. Sometimes our products get sent out in such a short time frame and that hurts our ability to produce a quality product"

Basicly what I got from customer service was a "I don't care, but I understand" kind of reply.

Futher errors you'll come across with this software is that it's missing files. A update will not replace these files and re-installing the software will only force you re-enter all of your personal information and start all over again.

The files that are missing are cruical to the operation of the program like certain scripts that allow for printing and designing custom invoices. If you try to use these features the program will crash and you'll have to re-install Money 2002.

Bottom line if you want some expensive toliet tissue buy the software and put the user guide to something worth while. Then use the CD-ROM as a coaster.

2 out of 5 stars Not friendly for invoicing   April 14, 2002

Be careful of this product if you want to produce custom invoicing. An Invoice Designer is included but crashes when saving any customization. Microsoft's web page says they are aware of the problem but do not have a solution. There is no provision for adding my own text (such as web page address) to the form. I also had a problem with a previous version where it could not print correctly to my HP printer.

Microsoft should be shamefully embarrassed by these failures and not market to any business if it cannot produce essential functionality.

5 out of 5 stars Some of the other reviews are far too critical   March 18, 2002
I was a little put off by several of the other reviews listed here, but decided to take a chance and buy it anyway since I really needed the business side of the software and have been using Money 98 for several years already. The only thing that I can imagine is that the people who didn't like the software were just overwhelmed by the sheer number of new features - most of which are accessible from the front page.

Installation was very smooth, as was the conversion of my old Money file. I actually find the front page quite handy and have kept Money open all the time for the last few days so that I can play around with the options there whenever I get a spare moment or two. The software is set up to help you become proactive in terms of your finances and take control. If all you want is a checkbook register, I understand you can turn off alot of the extra features, but if you do that I think you're under utilizing the software.

The only drawback I see about the business side of things is that there's not a whole lot of documentation. The options are pretty straightforward though, for anyone with even a slight exposure to business concepts (like invoicing, accounts receivable, etc.). I've quite enjoyed setting up customer accounts and am finding the software a motivator to try and improve my business just so I can play around with the features even more.
