MS Digital Imaging Suite '06 Review September 9, 2007 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I like the software. It has excellent features that make editing still photos very easy that one sees only in more costly software. However, I understand that Microsoft is dumping this program and they will no longer support it in the near future. But that is the Microsoft way....... The Pinnacle Studio 10 program, which is used for editing video, has some issues. It is huge, eating up valuable hard drive space! There are plug-ins that you have to purchase to really make it worthwhile. These are costly when you start adding them up. It seems to crash alot. I know my pc is stable and runs well, so I believe it is the Pinnacle software causing the headaches. All in all, I like both software programs, however, Pinnacle has dollar signs where their eyeballs should be....I give the software a guarded 'thumbs up', but would suggest that the user get an external hard drive to store the temp files and the saved projects. I did that, and it makes life easier when using this software.

I installed the Microsoft Suite 2006 and then the Pinnacle Studio 10. The pinnacle Studio 10 caused my computer to crash. I then had to replaced EVERYTHING on my computer. I lost all my photos.

The Suite is user-friendly. The photographs have a high quality professional appearance. Could use more framing options but definitely worth the money.
A few BEWARES January 1, 2007 5 out of 8 found this review helpful
I bought the software ( Digital Image Suite 2006 ) before I bought my camera - to be ready to process the pictures I was going to take. A BIG MISTAKE.
I bought a Canon 30D camera and record my images in RAW format (*.CR2). UNFORTUNATELY, not all Canon .CR2 RAW files are the same. So, even though the software says you can edit .CR2 RAW images, it depends on which camera made the image.
Here is complaint number two - If you use Microsoft's Customer Service/Technical Support you will be routed to India - and they will just give you an answer that is vaguely related to your problem.
After emailing several times and getting nowhere you will find out that you can't write to their Washington state headquarters unless you have the name of someone in the address.
So, basically, Microsoft is the largest technical software company in the world with the worst customer service and no American technical support.
Now, for the final complaint. There is no link or method to get updates or upgrades for this program! So, if I want to use a Microsoft software package to edit my photo images then I will have to buy a new software package - isn't that wonderful.
Get the Microsoft DIS; avoid Pinnacle at all costs October 22, 2006 Digital Image Suite is a fine program; it's built atop the MS Picture It! platform, which was great in design but in places clumsy and buggy in its earliest incarnations, and has nearly as many features as the higher-end, tutorial-intensive programs (think: Adobe or even Corel). If the MS DIS were by itself in this package, I'd highly recommend it.
However, half of what you're paying for here is Pinnacle Studio. And Pinnacle is notoriously buggy - regardless what version you use - and brings down the total rating for this overpriced bundle by more than half.
Pinnacle's products work fine when you initially install them. However, the moment you install *anything* afterwards, Pinnacle freaks out. And the later along you are (and therefore, the more registry changes other programs have performed on your PC), the more unreliable Pinnacle's software is.
This phenomenon is not restricted to Pinnacle Studio 10.0. It has happened to thousands (Google it) of customers, in every single manifestation of their video editing software, for years.
Bottom line: get the MC DIS. But don't be suckered into this "bargain" - it certainly is not. Avoid Pinnacle at all costs.
