I would not recommend this OS, stick with Win 98SE June 6, 2003 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
This is the quirkest OS I have ever used. It requires to much input for my liking and the passwords are a pain in the neck on the network, I know it is for security, but it still stinks. On one computer the OS would not even load, I spent over 2 days on the phone with Microsoft and another week via email just trying to get the stupid thing loaded, Microsoft finally gave up and gave me the address to return it directly to them for a refund.
It would have been a good os if they'd fix it... June 6, 2003 2 out of 4 found this review helpful
2000 would be the perfect choice for those of us who don't need the 2.x Ghz processor and the 512Mb+ ram. I expected this O.S. to be similar to Windows NT only better... and at first it was!! The system was rock solid in operating stability and my HDD was in great shape ( although they could use some improvements on the defrag utility )I honestly thought... ahh, here it is the operating system for my laptop. Then the infamous day... "...error reading memory 0x0000000..." I had too much on my machine for me to start all over again!! I went into the services manager and tracked the problem to the print spool... set it to start manually and the problem was fixed Wait a second this is too good... about three days after I thought I had the problem fixed a new "much more fun" problem started some of my programs refused to start... Hmmm better check things out... "task manager- dang won't run... fine I'll go into regedit and track it from there- nope that won't run either. Okay, I'll check my services... nope answer isn't there. Hmmm Safe Mode... yep, everything works fine... Now to go through all of these drivers... Aurggggh it's still not fixed... Hmmm what's this... Microsoft say's they're having problems with Windows 2000 in regards to memory allocation... Hello?? Are we going to fix it anytime soon?? Windows 2000 would be a great product if Microsoft would fix the memory allocation bugs...
Stick with it. April 27, 2003 5 out of 5 found this review helpful
Excellent OS Very stable. I have a copy running non stop for 1.5 years with no reboots. i will be rebooting it soon so i can do all the latest updates. For games it runs just fine. Don't be fooled and go with XP. Stick with WIndows 2000 Pro and save your money.
Total pain ..., now I use linux March 16, 2003 2 out of 7 found this review helpful
I am so sick of having to use this ... at work. With any kind of serious development, you'll run up against its limitations in process control and monitoring real quick. Unless you're so inundated and indoctrinated in microsoft think that you can't understand why one would want to actually control the operating system, you'll learn to loath win2k.
More stable than Windows98 second edition January 26, 2003 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
I have both windows 98 second edition and windows 2000 professional. I really like the stability of the 2000 o/s best. I have never had any crashes. It is easier to maintain with the tools that come with it also. I do not play alot of games but use it mostly for e-mail, web browsing and some programs. This is much more stable than 98. I get alot of error messages with 98 and blue screens also. So far with 2000 I have not seen any of those yet!!!
