Best purchase I've ever made!!! July 26, 2008 I'm absolutely in love with my Garmin Forerunner 305! It's the best on the market, easy to use (once you get the hang of it) and I got it at an AMAZING deal, which makes me enjoy it even better!
15 Minutes to Acquire Satellite Position Outweighs Great Features July 22, 2008 The Forerunner 305 has great features, and its workout tracking performance is great, once it gets started. But be prepared to turn the device on to let it start acquiring satellites at least 15 minutes before you want to start running or biking. In my experience, with a clear view of the sky, average time to get a position is about 5 minutes, but it is often more like 15 minutes, even though I start and end all my runs at the same place. Until it has a solid fix, it is unable to track your speed, distance, etc., so much time is wasted standing around waiting to start my runs until the watch finds its position. To me, having to turn the watch on that far in advance is completely unacceptable.
Great Training Device July 19, 2008 I would highly recommend this product to anyone interested in tracking their workouts. I'm in the process of training for my first marathon and have found this device to not only keep a detailed record of my process, but also provide motivation to keep on top of my training regiment.
I've been using this product for about 6 weeks now and have never had an issue with locating satellites. For some reason, I do seem to pick up the satellites much faster in my home area (Minneapolis) than I do when I've run with the device in different areas of the country. I had a bit of a delay in locating the satellites in Madison, WI and Charlotte, NC -- but other than having to wait a few minutes, it ended up working just fine. I've run under cloud cover and in heavily wooded areas, and I've never lost the GPS signal.
I would also recommend spending an extra $40 and purchasing a license to the Ascent software. I use a Mac and it is far better than other options I previewed -- the website is www.montebellosoftware.com.
NOT worth the money!! July 18, 2008 I have had this Forerunner 305 for about a month now. I bought it to replace the Forerunner 101 because my 101 would take forever to acquire a GPS signal and I was hoping the 305 would be much improved! I was sadly mistaken. It takes as long as 10 minutes sometimes for it to acquire a signal, and if you are a runner in the park, like I am, good luck keeping the signal if there are any trees nearby. The only reason I gave this product a 2 star and not a 1 star is because when it does actually work, it appears to work really well. Unfortunately for me, that is not very often!
Garmin Forerunner 305 July 18, 2008 Loved the GPS enabled trainer with heart rate monitor and computer software to analyse my workouts for the first three weeks I used it until I workup this morning and it won't turn on. I called Garmin and the wait time to talk to a rep is 30 minutes. VERY DISAPOINTING!! The down side of buying on line is I can't take it back and exchange it for one that is not defective.
