Very Dissapointed December 25, 2006 8 out of 9 found this review helpful
Not for the serious hiker. This map is way off on its accuracy. Want to plan a hike on your PC before hand....Forget it. Contours are 100 ft. incurements. Very limited reference points. Actually had me on the wrong side of a creek. No bench mark refferences. Use your Garman Gps it's a great tool. But don't waste your time or money with this map. Stick to your USGA maps.
Updates... December 15, 2006 17 out of 17 found this review helpful
The topographical software is good but not great. I think you've probably already figured that out from the other reviews.
There does however seem to be some confusion about getting updates. The way it works is when you buy a MapSource CD it comes with an unlock code. You then log into Garmin to see if there are any updates more current than your CD. If so, you can update your software for free using the unlock code. If you want to do another update sometime later in the future, you have to purchase a new unlock code from Garmin.

Very Outdated New Hampshire Maps December 11, 2006 3 out of 4 found this review helpful
I just purchased this software with a Garmin eTrac Legend. I drove to the Seacoast down many major highways that were not on the map even though they are 10 to 15 years old. On my Garmin, I am always north of the features on the map, I don't know if this is a map error or a GPS error. The Mapsource software on the cd is old by several versions. The new software is free online. You do get what you pay for, this software is not expensive, but it is not very good on detail either.
USA TOPO - Good coverage, poor resolution November 15, 2006 10 out of 10 found this review helpful
This product is a handy way to load up the topos you need for whatever trip you are planning. I recently uploaded some topos onto my GPS unit and took them on a multi-day river trip. The maps were adequate to tell me where on the river I was, with some of the undeveloped campgrounds even listed. However being 1:100000, the detail was poor and the contours had unusual intervals like a 337 foot contour, just below a 349 foot contour. I suspect it is a metric to english conversion thing. The other thing that was clunky about the software is that feature labels are fixed, so that unless you are zoomed way out, often you cannot tell the name of a creek, river, lake, or road without scrolling all around to find it. Overall, it was worth the money for the coverage, but was not an exceptional product. Garmin should really add 1:25000 topos to its software selection, even if you had to buy them individually or by state, it would still be worth it.
Mapsource Deer hunting November 10, 2006 9 out of 9 found this review helpful
Probably Mapsource deserves a higher rating but I have only used it Deer Hunting in Eastern Oregon so far. It was easy to load and added a lot of detail even in a very rural area with only forest service roads. The contours helped me to keep from falling into a ravine and being forced into a direction that I did not want to go. I can't wait to load more of the map and some different areas. I like the fact that you only have to load what you will be using. It did not take as much memory as I expected it would. I wouldn't use a GPS without it again.
