Awesome!!! November 26, 2004 17 out of 19 found this review helpful
Today morning I bought this at Bestbuy.(Cheaper than Amazon.com + Gift card). So far it works fairly well. I don't understand why people like Garmin GPS. I was comparing Garmin 2610, Navman icn 630 and this. Then I decided to buy Roadmate 300 because It has touchscreen, internel speaker( loud and clear) and price(cheper than 2610). It took around 45 sec to get a signal. Only thing I don't like is that I needed to buy SD card. because Ohio map was 40MB and I could download only 80MB to internel memory card. I feel great about it. The most important thing....I like it.
only so-so November 22, 2004 Nice idea, but HUGE holes in their database (doesn't recognize streets or addresses that have been in California, Illinois, Tennessee, Kentucky, and Alabama for as long as 70 years!). Doesn't have a large, not very new mall listed in their shopping POI for our home town. Gas stations are presented in the wrong place on the map. Magellan's plan to update the database only annually is far too infrequent for a world that can use Mapquest for free instead of paying $700+ for a talking toy. On the plus side, the unit is simple to use and easy to interpret the information presented at a glance...or let the GPS talk you thru the turns to where you're going. Magellan needs to add the capability to input waypoints by lat/long or MGRS also. That would help with the problem of not having new housing tracts listed in the database. In short, not worth $700+...maybe $300. Next time, I'm going with a Garman.
why??--Try Navman ICN630 October 27, 2004 27 out of 62 found this review helpful
These two products are alike, but Navman is MUCHO cheaper, read reviews of it, why spend the extra bucks for Magellan, have seen thm all, Navman is equal or better, and cheaper
why no battery? check out Garmin Quest as better value October 6, 2004 47 out of 83 found this review helpful
Disappointing that Magellan failed to make this new Roadmate 300 unit with optional battery power. Otherwise there's not alot to distinguish it from the Roadmate 500 it replaces. A much better value is either the new Garmin Quest GPS or Navman 510 which both have internal rechargable battery with voice prompts.
