5 out of 5 stars Gullivers Travel & Beyond ~!   October 17, 2008

I've had this GPS unit for almost 2 years. And it's a superb product, in this modern realm. As it talks back too!

Although it has a few nominal quirks here and there while out in the field, it performs as it should and it will always get you there. The computer synch-web-map upgrades for life are a great addition. No need to subscribe or pay for anything, as some other GPS units may require the end user to do.

Highly recommended for the conscientious traveler. It goes from car to pocket instantly.

My only complaint with this product design is, one has to have the back-flip antenna in the UP position in order for the unit to find the orbital satellites. In my opinion, it should be built into the unit, like some of the newer units.

But aside from that, the Nuvi 350 is another keeper indeed as a perfect driving or traveling companion. You can even translate any language once you install any of the Language Guides.

3 out of 5 stars works eventually   October 17, 2008

This Garmin works eventually. Rapid changes in your location, for example flying to another state and then activating the Garmin seems to confuse it. Several repetitions of turning it off and then back on again seem to solve the problem

3 out of 5 stars Disappointed   October 16, 2008

I bought this unit from Amazon about a month ago and took it out for the first time last week on a trip to see the autumn colors in MN. The first thing which irritated us was how long it would take to acquire the satellite. It took way too long, definitely longer than an older Magellan model I tried out in Florida. I finally started driving since I knew how to get out of the city since it was just one highway straight out. Finally the unit decided to cooperate and latch on. It then started to try to give the directions from our house rather than the current location. We had to then restart the route so it start from where we were. Since the route was pretty easy we were able to follow the directions. Later in the day after we were taking a look at some stuff and came back to the car, the stupid thing stopped working. I had plugged it in using the charger but it just wouldn't turn. In fact the little light that appears on the charger wasn't turning on. Finally my wife hit the reset button and then the thing came back to life but it was running off the battery. I don't know what happened to the charger. We finally gave up hope on it and fortunately we didn't have to use it much. Now I have to see it works in another car.
Overall not too thrilled with it despite the hype and "great" reviews. Maybe it's because i got it on sale...

5 out of 5 stars 3600 miles/2 weeks/Never opened a map!   October 15, 2008

Yowza All,
Did my homework/research and bought the Garmin Nuvi350. Just used "getting started" instructions never bothered to download as the use of unit is very intuitive.
Received unit the day before leaving on a 2 week vacation that covered 3600 miles.
Unit never faltered. Amazingly the only "wrong" directions were to a Dunkin Donuts that had moved out and now was inhabited by another doughnut shop, no big deal.
Miss a turn, unit reconfigures route and arrival time. The information available at your fingertips is staggering.
Touch screen easy to use. Volume of unit could be a little louder especially if music is loud. I'm debating patching in to the audio of the vehicle.
Never bothered mounting to windshield as I liked it by the center console.
Would've ordered the "big chip" memory upgrade but Amazon's delivery time mdidn't fit my schedule. I recommend it but I never got to the point of needing it, I just want to have it "in case'.
The "only" flaw I noticed was the inability to remove "places" that have been selected from the "Recent". I can delete all of them but not selectively, too bad. This becomes an issue when on the road and you pull up a variety of selections in say, restaurants. You compare routes of the ones you select but only choose one and then the rest still are on the "Recent".
Best money I've spent in a long time, very rarely have a value been this good.
Vacation started from our house in Connecticut to New York, Pennsylvania, Ohio, and Michigan. Covered 3600 miles and never got lost and never had to refold a map. The wife feels this will save marriages for those who use their spouse as a co-pilot.

4 out of 5 stars Great GPS   October 15, 2008

It is my first time to purchase a GPS. I chose this one based on the review of this item. It works good, fast searching satellite, clear pronunciations. The only thing I need to mention is the map on this GPS is only 2008, but you can go to garmin website to download new 2009 Map by using the serial NO. it is a huge file about 2 GB. it took me one hour to down load and another to update it. Great GPS, works great so far. Owned for one month.
