5 out of 5 stars Not perfect, but very nice   March 20, 2007

Amazing product. Not every direction is is the best (it will get you there, usually) and new roads will always be an issue.

However, it is easy to use and works better than I would have ever guessed.

One needs to learn some of the features to use it effectively, and it does not like starting up when cold (will take a long time).

Also, when it shows the distance to various locations, that distance must be direct, because the driving distance is alway longer.

Overall, could not be happier.

4 out of 5 stars Data base out of date   March 19, 2007

I bought this product and just finished using it on a 3000+ mile trip. It did an OK job, but not a great job. A lot of roads, exits, etc. have changed since the current data base was established. I don't know if this is product-specific or if it is a problem with all GPS navigators. Naturally it is useless in newly developed subdivisions, but there are streets that have changed names in my town at least 10 years ago and the this unit still refers to the old street name. It also refers to streets that are county, state, and federal highways by the highway number instead of street names in some places and street names instead of highway numbers in other places--frustrating when you are trying to go to intersection in a town when you don't know the local street names.

As expected, an excellent Garmin product. Easy to use, accurate and much information after working with it for several days. Use it constantly.

5 out of 5 stars Great little GPS   March 19, 2007

Garmin has a great name when it comes to GPS and Navigation. I am enjoying this little system. Compact, loaded with lots of information and can do a lot more than just get you to your destination. There are several packages you can buy and download. (They are rather expensive though.) I especially like the voice prompts that tells you which street to turn on. It helps keep my eyes on the road rather than on the screen. In todays driving... with all the other destractions on the road... that's a good thing. I ordered a mount for my Harley and it works great on my motorcycle. It is a little harder to read in the bright sunlight though. Just remember to put it away if it starts to rain. This particular model is not waterproof. (But, I can do that.) Being battery powered is a plus too. Small enough to fit in my pocket with a nice little leather case, when I am in a strange city checking out the sights on foot... I can always find my way back to my hotel. I'm going see if it will get me back to my truck in the airport parking lot after 4 or 5 days on the road. (NOW... Where did I park my truck this week.) As a pilot... we use GPS Navigation all the time now. The tech. is great... I am always amazed at how those who make these things can get all that information into that little box. Garmin offers a free update with your purchase and you can sign up for future updates when they come for a small price. A complete manual can be downloaded when you hook it up to your computer. It's pretty handy and I am enjoying it.
