A reliable friend. May 1, 2006 8 out of 10 found this review helpful
I recently took a trip out of my home state and used a rent-a-car gps. It was absolutely useless. I then went to a nearby Circuit City and purchased a Garmin c330. It was much better, but it was flawed in that it sometimes took me far from my destination and sometimes would loose the satellite signal. When I came back home I returned it and got the Nuvi 350. It is remarkable accurate and gives you the street name in which you will be turning. It picks up the satellite signal very fast and your quickly on your way. For all California drivers the signal is strong enough that you don't have to attach it anywhere. You can put it on your lap or on the compartment between the two front seats. The instructions are so clear you don't even have to look at the screen. I am extremely pleased with my purchase. Well worth the money.
WORKS AS IF IT HAS A MIND OF ITS OWN! April 29, 2006 1 out of 5 found this review helpful
Good: - Very light-weight, so carrying it around is not inconvenient. - Very thin, as if you are watching a tiny LCD TV. Since it is not bulky, it fits nicely in your purse / pocket. - Mostly very accurate direction, alert driver at the right time to make a turn. VERY IMPRESSIVE! Bad: - The suction needs to stick better, not only into the windshield but also to other flat clean surfaces.
Beautiful April 20, 2006 4 out of 13 found this review helpful
I just wish I could enter LAT/LON coordinates. Other than that, this unit is all that it is advertised to be. No waypoints, but behind the wheel, it will get you there in style.
great product, but a newer model is coming out April 13, 2006 9 out of 17 found this review helpful
The nuvi 350 has all the features I thought I might want (except maybe a camera), but the next model the 360 looks even better. Do a search for the "garmin nuvi 360" on Amazon and you'll see that it looks just like the 350 but also has some other features, like the ability to make phone calls through it (provided your cell phone is Bluetooth enabled). I wonder if the Bluetooth capabilities are only for making calls, or if you can transfer data too. They both look like great products, but I think I'm going to wait until the nuvi 360 comes out.
Good GPS, but reliability issues April 13, 2006 12 out of 14 found this review helpful
I have had the Nuvi for 4 months and have taken it across the country a couple of times. It has thrilled me many times by giving me routes around traffic in strange cities. It was worth the price. If the store you are purchasing this unit from offers an EXTENDED WARRANTY, you may want to consider this! See my comments below.
Good: * Good GPS navigation * Easy to use * Nice size * Nice interface * Fast * Does not lock up or have any software glitches * Just plug it into your PC and it automatically shows up as a USB flash memory drive (actually shows up as two - one called Nuvi and one for the SD card) * There is more than 500 MB of free memory space that can be used for MP3's (see below) or for pictures or audio books. For some reason, this is not advertised anywhere! * All navigational and system files are readily accessible as soon as the device is attached to the computer under a Garmin directory. However, I cannot figure out if Garmin offers upgraded maps or points of interest. * A lot of good points of interest - they probably have about 50-60% of all places (gas stations, restaurants, etc.) from my estimations. * The manual is loaded on the unit and can be copied to your PC via USB.
Bad: * To get back to the map, you have to back out of all menus and then click the map button -- Should be faster! * The window bracket is breaking after 4 months of babied usage! The plastic that surrounds the metal pin used for up-and-down adjustments is not as thick as it should be. * I used the MP3 player for 30 minutes at 75% volume listening to a talk and the SPEAKER BLEW! The volume was only the same as the normal navigational instructions. I hope this is only a fluke problem. I, nevertheless, will NOT be using the MP3 player again (after I get a replacement)! If you're getting this for playing MP3's, think again. * The unit only plays MP3's and not other media like WMA's * Some of the voices in some of the languages (like the British accent lady) is not loud enough or understandable. * Occasionally, the Nuvi gives me bad directions like telling me to exit the freeway then get back on the freeway again. * The Nuvi obviously has a snap-to feature in the software where it will assume you are on the road or on the prescribed route even if the GPS is saying that you are off. The negative aspects of this are that when you leave the route (like exiting the freeway), it often cannot tell you are not on the original road until you make a more drastic turn.
I have been waiting for a couple of days for Garmin customer support to return my e-mail to them to give me a required number so I can return the unit to their facility. I will really miss the unit for the entire time it will be gone while Garmin evaluates the unit to see whether they repair or replace. I hope it won't be too long! At this point, I still recommend it.
